Job Title: Marine Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Marine Engineer at the mid-career level to join our team. In this role, you will take on more responsibility in the design, operation, and maintenance of marine systems and equipment. You will work closely with senior engineers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery and operational performance of marine vessels, offshore platforms, and other maritime assets. Key Responsibilities:

Design and Engineering:

  • Lead the design and development of marine systems, including propulsion, electrical, HVAC, and automation systems for vessels and offshore platforms.
  • Prepare and review technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Oversee the selection of materials and components based on performance requirements, technical specifications, and regulatory compliance.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Manage the maintenance, repair, and optimization of marine systems, engines, generators, and related equipment.
  • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of complex system failures, providing technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with safety standards, regulations, and best practices.

Project Management:

  • Oversee and coordinate marine engineering projects, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to budget, and compliance with quality standards.
  • Collaborate with senior management and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of systems into larger projects.
  • Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocations, ensuring all deliverables meet client and regulatory requirements.

Operational Support:

  • Provide ongoing technical support to operations teams, offering solutions for improving system performance and minimizing downtime.
  • Assist in the optimization of vessel and platform operations, ensuring that marine systems operate efficiently and safely.
  • Conduct regular inspections and performance evaluations of marine systems, identifying areas for improvement.

Testing and Quality Assurance:

  • Lead the testing and commissioning of newly installed or modified systems, ensuring they meet operational, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement and manage quality assurance processes to ensure all systems are tested and meet the highest standards of performance.
  • Record and analyze test data to identify any potential issues and implement corrective actions.

Training and Development:

  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians, sharing technical knowledge, offering guidance, and supporting their professional growth.
  • Stay updated on new technologies, industry standards, and best practices in marine engineering.
  • Participate in training programs, workshops, and certification courses to further develop your expertise in marine systems and operations.

Marine Systems Optimization:

  • Focus on optimizing the design and performance of marine systems, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and safety across a range of marine assets.

Project Leadership and Management:

  • Lead marine engineering projects, ensuring all tasks are completed within scope, time, and budget while meeting quality standards.

Technical Support and Troubleshooting:

  • Provide expert technical support for troubleshooting, repairs, and the ongoing operation of complex marine systems.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Oversee the testing, inspection, and quality control of systems to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or relevant certifications in marine engineering or marine systems are a plus.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in marine engineering, including hands-on experience with the operation, maintenance, and design of marine systems.
  • Experience working with propulsion systems, HVAC, electrical systems, engines, and other marine equipment.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering marine engineering projects, ensuring all deliverables are met within timelines and budgets.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in marine engineering software, including CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Advanced knowledge of marine systems, including propulsion, power generation, automation, and structural systems.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and diagnosing complex engineering issues in marine systems.

Project Management Skills:

  • Strong project management skills, including experience in planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.
  • Experience in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and system optimization.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly present technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to ensuring all projects meet the required standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and develop junior engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):

  • Certification in marine surveying, naval architecture, or relevant marine engineering certifications.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
  • Safety certifications such as Offshore Safety, First Aid, or other relevant health and safety certifications.
