Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Manufacturing Quality Engineer – Fabrication supports quality assurance activities in the fabrication area, ensuring that products and processes meet internal standards and customer requirements. This role involves assisting with inspections, data collection, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. The engineer works closely with the production and fabrication teams to identify issues, maintain quality records, and implement corrective actions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining fabrication quality standards for welded, stamped, machined, and assembled components.

  • Conduct routine inspections of in-process and finished parts using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).

  • Support root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for quality issues.

  • Document and maintain quality control reports, deviation records, and inspection logs.

  • Help develop quality control plans, work instructions, and checklists for fabrication processes.

  • Collaborate with fabrication, welding, and machining teams to identify and resolve quality concerns.

  • Participate in first article inspection (FAI), PPAP, and process capability studies.

  • Assist in the calibration and upkeep of measurement tools and inspection equipment.

  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends, defects, or process variations.


Key Focus Areas:

  1. Inspection and Verification:

    • Perform dimensional and visual inspections of fabricated parts.

    • Support incoming material and in-process inspections.

  2. Documentation & Compliance:

    • Maintain accurate inspection records and quality documentation.

    • Support compliance with ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 standards.

  3. Problem-Solving:

    • Participate in quality problem-solving teams (8D, fishbone, 5 Whys).

    • Report quality issues promptly and assist in containment actions.

  4. Continuous Improvement:

    • Contribute to process improvement initiatives related to scrap, rework, and process variation.

    • Learn and apply basic Lean and Six Sigma tools under guidance.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

  • Internship or academic project experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, or quality control environment is preferred.

  • Familiarity with basic measuring instruments and GD&T.

  • Understanding of quality concepts such as inspection planning, FMEA, and control plans.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word); knowledge of SPC or Minitab is a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and willingness to learn.
