Job Title: Manufacturing Automation Engineer
Job Summary:
The Mid-Level Manufacturing Automation Engineer is responsible for managing and optimizing automated systems within manufacturing operations. This role involves a deeper involvement in the design, programming, troubleshooting, and integration of automation systems such as robots, conveyors, and PLC/SCADA-controlled equipment. The engineer will work independently with minimal supervision, providing technical expertise and leadership in automation projects, quality control, and system performance monitoring. The Mid-Level Engineer is expected to mentor junior staff and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to improve operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
System Installation, Integration, and Setup:
- Lead the setup, installation, and commissioning of automated manufacturing systems, including robots, conveyors, and other automated equipment.
- Oversee the integration of SCADA and PLC systems with manufacturing processes, ensuring seamless communication and operation between different systems.
- Conduct system testing, performance validation, and troubleshooting to ensure equipment operates optimally and meets production requirements.
Programming and Control:
- Develop and modify complex control logic for PLCs and SCADA systems, optimizing automated processes for efficiency and reliability.
- Lead programming tasks for the automation of production processes, ensuring alignment with production goals and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot and debug system programming, identifying and resolving issues to improve system performance and reduce downtime.
Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and Optimization:
- Proactively monitor and maintain automated systems, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts to resolve more complex issues with automation systems and machinery, minimizing downtime and ensuring production continuity.
- Implement system upgrades and improvements to enhance performance, efficiency, and reliability.
Quality Control and Performance Monitoring:
- Lead efforts in monitoring automated systems to ensure adherence to quality standards, production targets, and safety protocols.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data from sensors and automation systems to identify trends, performance issues, and areas for improvement.
- Work with quality assurance teams to ensure that automated systems consistently meet quality standards and production specifications.
Collaboration and Project Management:
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to implement automation solutions that meet operational goals and improve production efficiency.
- Lead or assist in the execution of cross-functional projects, ensuring that project deliverables are met on time and within budget.
- Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and technical support to foster their growth and development in automation technologies.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed technical documentation for system configurations, programming changes, and troubleshooting activities.
- Generate and present reports on system performance, project progress, and any challenges or issues encountered.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations through thorough documentation and adherence to best practices.
Learning and Development:
- Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in automation, PLC/SCADA programming, and industrial control systems.
- Attend training and development opportunities to further enhance expertise in automation and manufacturing processes.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

- Ability to troubleshoot and optimize industrial automation systems, identifying and resolving complex technical issues.
- Experience with quality control principles and practices in automated manufacturing environments.

Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Advanced certifications in PLC programming, SCADA systems, robotics, or industrial automation are highly desirable.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience working in manufacturing automation, industrial control systems, or related fields.
- Proven experience with PLC/SCADA systems, automation equipment, and troubleshooting within manufacturing environments.
- Experience leading small projects and working collaboratively in cross-functional teams is a plus.
Tools and Technologies:
- Proficiency with SCADA systems and PLC programming software (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, Wonderware).
- Familiarity with industrial robotics and automation tools (e.g., ABB, FANUC, KUKA robots).
- Knowledge of diagnostic tools and software used for troubleshooting automated systems.
