Manager – Emission Valve Compliance and Testing

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Manager – Emission Valve Compliance and Testing is responsible for overseeing the validation, certification, and regulatory compliance of emission control valves used in internal combustion engines and hybrid powertrain systems. This includes Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valves, purge valves, PCV valves, and other emissions-critical components.

The role leads the testing, documentation, and reporting processes required to meet global emission standards (e.g., EPA, CARB, Euro 6/7, BS VI). The manager will collaborate with design, quality, calibration, and regulatory teams to ensure product conformance and successful homologation across regional markets.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Emission Valve Compliance Management

  • Own end-to-end compliance lifecycle of emission valves and systems, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements (EPA, CARB, Euro, etc.).

  • Coordinate with legal and regulatory affairs teams to interpret evolving standards and integrate them into valve development programs.

  • Maintain up-to-date compliance documentation for internal audits and external certification agencies.

2. Test Strategy and Execution

  • Define test plans and validation protocols for durability, functionality, leakage, actuation, flow rate, and thermal performance of emission valves.

  • Oversee lab and dyno-based testing activities, including correlation with vehicle-level emissions performance.

  • Analyze test data to identify root causes of failure and recommend design or material changes as needed.

3. Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work closely with valve design engineers, controls/calibration teams, and emissions modeling groups to align on design intent and control strategies.

  • Support product launches and production readiness reviews by ensuring validated, compliant components.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and third-party labs for accelerated validation and certification testing.

4. Reporting and Certification

  • Prepare comprehensive test reports and compliance dossiers for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.

  • Support homologation and certification processes in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific markets.

  • Interface with third-party agencies (e.g., TÜV, ARAI, EPA-approved labs) for testing and certification approvals.

5. Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and mentor a team of test engineers and technicians focused on emissions valve systems.

  • Promote a culture of technical excellence, process discipline, and continuous improvement in compliance engineering.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Emission Valve Functionality & Lifecycle Testing

  • Global Regulatory Compliance (EPA, CARB, Euro 6/7, BS VI)

  • Certification and Documentation Management

  • Supplier Validation & Quality Interface

  • Failure Analysis and Corrective Action for Emissions Systems

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.

  • 8–12 years of experience in emissions systems, valve testing, or powertrain compliance engineering.

  • Deep understanding of emissions control technologies and global regulatory frameworks.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with emissions control systems (EGR, EVAP, PCV, SCR, DPF, etc.).

  • Proficiency with lab instrumentation, data acquisition tools, and test automation systems.

  • Experience with ISO 17025, IATF 16949, and environmental compliance protocols.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills.
