Job Title:  Machinery Mechanic

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Machinery Mechanic to lead and oversee the maintenance, repair, and optimization of machinery in our manufacturing facility. In this senior-level role, you will be responsible for troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, providing leadership to the maintenance team, and ensuring that machines and systems operate efficiently to meet production goals. You will be expected to manage and execute preventative maintenance programs, provide technical expertise, and mentor junior mechanics. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Team Management:

    • Lead and mentor a team of machinery mechanics, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficient and effective maintenance operations.
    • Oversee and delegate maintenance tasks, ensuring that all machinery is serviced and repaired promptly, and production schedules are met.
    • Conduct performance reviews, set individual and team goals, and promote a culture of continuous improvement and safety within the maintenance team.
  2. Complex Machine Troubleshooting and Repair:

    • Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues across a range of machinery, including CNC machines, conveyors, pumps, motors, and more.
    • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) efforts for recurring machinery malfunctions and implement corrective actions to prevent future issues.
    • Diagnose and resolve mechanical failures using advanced tools and techniques, minimizing downtime and ensuring equipment is restored to optimal performance.
  3. Preventive Maintenance and Process Optimization:

    • Develop, implement, and monitor preventive maintenance programs to ensure the machinery operates efficiently and reliably.
    • Perform routine inspections, testing, and calibration of mechanical equipment, ensuring that all systems function according to specifications.
    • Continuously optimize maintenance processes to improve machine performance, reduce downtime, and extend equipment lifespan.
  4. Machine Setup and Adjustments:

    • Lead efforts to ensure proper machine setup for production runs, ensuring machine configurations align with production specifications and safety standards.
    • Make adjustments to machine settings, parameters, and tooling to optimize efficiency and product quality.
    • Work with engineering and production teams to modify or upgrade machinery for improved performance and productivity.
  5. Training and Development:

    • Provide ongoing training and mentorship to junior mechanics, assisting them in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining complex machinery.
    • Share best practices with the team, helping to improve technical skills and knowledge across the department.
    • Stay updated on the latest maintenance practices, tools, and technologies, sharing this knowledge with the team to improve overall maintenance efficiency.
  6. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure that all maintenance activities adhere to safety protocols, company policies, and industry regulations.
    • Conduct safety audits and ensure that the maintenance team follows proper safety practices while working on machinery.
    • Identify potential hazards related to machinery and maintenance tasks and implement corrective actions to ensure a safe working environment.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and part replacements.
    • Ensure accurate documentation of machine performance, downtime, and repairs for auditing and tracking purposes.
    • Report on the status of machinery and maintenance activities to senior management, providing recommendations for further improvements.
  8. Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:

    • Work closely with production, engineering, and quality control teams to ensure that machinery is set up and operating correctly to meet production goals.
    • Collaborate with the maintenance team and other departments to address any issues that arise during production, implementing solutions quickly to minimize disruptions.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Advanced Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

    • Lead the troubleshooting of complex mechanical systems, identifying root causes and ensuring repairs are completed to minimize downtime.
  2. Maintenance Strategy and Optimization:

    • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs, optimizing equipment performance and reliability.
  3. Leadership and Team Mentorship:

    • Lead the maintenance team, fostering a collaborative environment, mentoring junior staff, and promoting skill development.
  4. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure that all maintenance tasks are completed following safety regulations and industry standards to protect the team and facility.
  5. Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance machine efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, and increase overall productivity.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or certification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred.
    • 5-7 years of experience in machinery maintenance, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior mechanic role.
  2. Technical Skills:

    • Expertise in the operation, repair, and maintenance of a wide range of mechanical systems and machinery, including CNC equipment, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
    • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to use diagnostic tools and test equipment.
    • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance techniques and the ability to implement these effectively.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and machine schematics.
  3. Soft Skills:

    • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to guide and develop a team of mechanics.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues independently.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills to prioritize maintenance tasks and ensure production schedules are met.
    • Excellent communication skills to work with other departments and report findings to senior management.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or similar process improvement certifications.
    • Certification in machinery repair, industrial safety, or related areas is an advantage.
    • OSHA or similar safety certifications are beneficial.
