Job Title: Machinery Mechanic

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Mid-Level Machinery Mechanic to join our maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems and machinery within our production facility. You will be expected to independently handle complex maintenance tasks, improve machine efficiency, and ensure minimal downtime. As a mid-level mechanic, you will also mentor junior mechanics and assist in training new team members. This position offers the opportunity to develop your technical expertise and take on a leadership role in the maintenance department.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Machine Maintenance and Repair:

    • Perform regular maintenance and repairs on various machinery, including motors, pumps, conveyors, and production equipment.
    • Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical issues, ensuring that all machinery operates at peak efficiency.
    • Replace worn or damaged components, such as bearings, belts, seals, and motors, to prevent machine failure.
    • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks, including lubrication, cleaning, and calibration of equipment.
  2. Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

    • Independently diagnose machine malfunctions, identify root causes, and take corrective actions to restore machinery to operational status.
    • Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters, vibration analysis equipment, and thermal cameras to assess machine health and performance.
    • Collaborate with the maintenance team and engineering to resolve complex mechanical issues that affect production.
  3. Machine Setup and Optimization:

    • Assist with machine setup for production runs, ensuring machines are configured to meet specific production requirements.
    • Optimize machine settings to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and maintain product quality.
    • Continuously monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain production goals.
  4. Leadership and Mentoring:

    • Mentor and provide guidance to junior mechanics, helping them develop their technical skills and troubleshoot basic machine problems.
    • Lead by example in maintaining high standards of quality, efficiency, and safety.
    • Assist in training new maintenance team members on procedures, tools, and best practices for machine maintenance.
  5. Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to all safety protocols while performing maintenance tasks, ensuring a safe working environment.
    • Inspect machinery for safety hazards and report any issues to the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager.
    • Promote safety awareness within the team and ensure that all team members follow safety guidelines.
  6. Process Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in maintenance practices and machine performance.
    • Suggest and implement process improvements to reduce downtime, increase machine reliability, and enhance production efficiency.
    • Participate in regular maintenance reviews and provide input on potential upgrades or modifications to machinery and equipment.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
    • Complete work orders and log maintenance activities for future reference.
    • Report on maintenance issues, machine performance, and downtime to the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager.

    • Independently manage maintenance tasks and troubleshoot complex machine issues to minimize downtime and production delays.

    • Optimize machine settings and improve machine performance to ensure high-quality production output with minimal waste.
  3. Team Leadership and Development:

    • Mentor and train junior mechanics, promoting knowledge-sharing and skill development within the team.
  4. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  5. Continuous Improvement:

    • Contribute to process improvements by identifying ways to enhance machine efficiency, reduce downtime, and increase overall productivity.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
    • 3-5 years of experience in machinery maintenance, repair, or a related field, with hands-on experience working with production equipment.
  2. Technical Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including motors, hydraulic systems, gearboxes, and pneumatic systems.
    • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance management software.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
    • Experience with predictive and preventive maintenance techniques.
  3. Soft Skills:

    • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues.
    • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with maintenance teams, production staff, and management.
    • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
    • Strong attention to detail to ensure that all maintenance activities are performed to a high standard.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Certifications in mechanical maintenance, industrial safety, or machinery operation are beneficial.
    • OSHA or similar safety certifications are preferred.
