Job Title: Machine Operator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Machine Operator to take a lead role in overseeing the operation, setup, and maintenance of machinery in our manufacturing facility. In this advanced position, you will be responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient machine operations, troubleshooting complex machine issues, and maintaining product quality standards. You will also mentor and guide junior machine operators, ensuring the team meets production goals while adhering to safety standards. This role offers the opportunity to take on leadership responsibilities and apply your expertise to improve production efficiency and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Machine Setup and Operation:

    • Lead the setup, operation, and fine-tuning of various machines, such as CNC machines, lathes, grinders, and other equipment used in the manufacturing process.
    • Adjust machine settings, troubleshoot, and make necessary changes to optimize machine performance and meet production goals.
    • Ensure machines are running efficiently and within specified tolerances, maximizing production output.
  2. Quality Control and Monitoring:

    • Perform routine and advanced quality checks on machine outputs to ensure products meet strict specifications.
    • Use precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers) and quality standards to monitor production quality.
    • Identify and resolve quality issues in production quickly, making adjustments to maintain product consistency and minimize waste.
  3. Troubleshooting and Machine Maintenance:

    • Take the lead in troubleshooting complex machine malfunctions, performing repairs or coordinating with maintenance teams for major breakdowns.
    • Conduct routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machinery operates efficiently and minimizes downtime.
    • Ensure that all machines are properly lubricated, cleaned, and maintained in accordance with company guidelines.
  4. Leadership and Team Guidance:

    • Mentor junior machine operators, providing guidance on machine operation, troubleshooting, and safety procedures.
    • Lead by example in maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency, while promoting a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
    • Provide training to new or junior team members, helping them develop their technical skills and machine knowledge.
  5. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure that all machine operations are carried out in accordance with safety guidelines and company safety standards.
    • Monitor adherence to safety regulations and best practices in the workplace, identifying and addressing safety risks.
    • Promote and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe working practices within the production area.
  6. Process Improvement and Optimization:

    • Lead efforts to improve machine efficiency, reduce production costs, and increase output quality through continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., production, maintenance, quality control) to enhance machine performance and optimize manufacturing processes.
    • Evaluate current processes and recommend changes to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of machine operations.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of machine setups, maintenance activities, and inspection results.
    • Report machine performance, downtime, and quality issues to the production supervisor or manufacturing manager.
    • Document and update machine operation procedures, ensuring that all information is current and accessible to team members.
  8. Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:

    • Work closely with other teams, including production planning, quality control, and maintenance, to ensure alignment on machine performance and production goals.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors and other stakeholders to ensure that production targets are met and any issues are addressed promptly.

    • Lead the operation, setup, and optimization of machines to ensure high production efficiency and quality.
    • Troubleshoot complex issues to minimize downtime and improve machine performance.
  2. Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure product quality through consistent monitoring and inspections, making adjustments as necessary to maintain quality standards.
  3. Team Leadership and Mentorship:

    • Guide and support junior operators, fostering a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
  4. Process Improvement:

    • Identify and implement process improvements to increase productivity, reduce waste, and enhance machine reliability.
  5. Safety Compliance:

    • Ensure all machine operations are performed safely and in compliance with industry regulations and company policies.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or an associate degree in a related field (e.g., mechanical engineering or manufacturing) is preferred.
    • 5+ years of experience in machine operation, with hands-on experience operating and maintaining manufacturing machinery.
  2. Technical Skills:

    • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, components, and machine operations.
    • Proficiency in using machine tools, measuring instruments, and troubleshooting techniques.
    • Experience with machine calibration, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and machine manuals.
  3. Soft Skills:

    • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with the capability to train and support junior team members.
    • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address complex machine issues.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments.
    • Attention to detail to ensure that all machine setups and finished products meet required specifications.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Certifications related to machine operation, safety practices, or manufacturing processes are a plus (e.g., CNC operator certification, OSHA).
    • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certifications are beneficial.
