MRO Technician – Mechanical Repairs and Overhaul

Roles & Responsibilities

The Mid-Level MRO Technician – Mechanical Repairs and Overhaul is responsible for independently performing mechanical inspections, disassembly, repairs, and reassembly of critical components and systems such as engines, turbines, pumps, gearboxes, and valves. The technician ensures work is performed to engineering specifications, safety protocols, and quality standards.

This role requires solid hands-on technical skills, experience in precision repair and reconditioning practices, and the ability to troubleshoot and restore mechanical components across a range of industrial or marine systems.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform detailed inspections and condition assessments of mechanical components and assemblies.

    • Conduct disassembly, repair, replacement, and reassembly of worn or damaged components using precision tools and fixtures.

    • Use technical manuals, engineering drawings, and repair documentation to complete tasks accurately.

    • Operate precision instruments (e.g., micrometers, dial indicators, CMM tools) to verify dimensional tolerances.

    • Execute dynamic balancing, lapping, polishing, and alignment of rotating machinery components.

    • Maintain accurate maintenance records, parts usage logs, and repair reports using CMMS or documentation systems.

    • Support root cause analysis and failure investigations as needed.

    • Follow workplace safety, environmental, and quality procedures at all times.

    • Collaborate with QA inspectors, engineers, and logistics teams to ensure seamless workflow.

    • Mentor and guide junior technicians during repair or overhaul procedures.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Mechanical Repair & Overhaul Execution

    • Independently perform precision repairs and restorations of mechanical components.

  2. Dimensional Inspection & Quality Control

    • Ensure compliance with specifications through accurate measuring and quality assurance.

  3. Documentation & Reporting

    • Maintain complete repair history, non-conformance logs, and overhaul records.

  4. Technical Support & Troubleshooting

    • Identify mechanical faults, suggest corrective actions, and assist with field support if required.

Qualifications & Skills:

    • ITI, Diploma, or Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Technology, or a related trade.

    • 3–6 years of hands-on experience in mechanical repair, overhaul, or maintenance in marine, aviation, or industrial environments.

    • Proficient in using hand and power tools, measurement instruments, and mechanical repair equipment.

    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, repair manuals, and component specifications.

    • Strong knowledge of bearings, seals, shafts, housings, and rotating equipment.

    • Familiar with CMMS systems, parts catalogs, and repair standards.

    • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality, precision, and safe work practices.

    • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with turbine, diesel engine, or gearbox overhauls.

    • Exposure to ISO 9001, AS9100, or other quality standards relevant to the industry.

    • Familiarity with vibration analysis, dynamic balancing, or non-destructive testing (NDT).

    • OEM or manufacturer-specific repair training/certification is a plus.
