The Loop Checking Supervisor leads a team of technicians to execute, oversee, and complete loop checking activities across analog and digital instrumentation systems. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, timely, and high-quality execution of all loop testing and documentation activities in alignment with commissioning schedules and project specifications.
Team Supervision & Resource Planning:
Allocate and supervise loop checking personnel and resources across multiple systems or plant areas, ensuring adherence to daily and weekly targets.
Project Coordination:
Coordinate loop testing schedules with commissioning, QA/QC, electrical, and control system teams to align with system turnover priorities.
Technical Oversight:
Provide expert guidance and resolution for complex loop faults, signal integrity issues, grounding problems, and field instrumentation mismatches.
Documentation Management:
Oversee the completion, review, and submission of loop folders, redlined drawings, ITRs (Inspection Test Reports), and punch list closure for handover.
Interface with Engineering & Control Teams:
Act as the primary point of contact for control system engineers (PLC/DCS), ensuring field device signals are integrated correctly in control logic and graphics.
Standards & Quality Assurance:
Ensure all loop checks meet project specifications, international standards (ISA, IEC), and client requirements.
Safety & Compliance:
Lead safety briefings, enforce LOTO and PTW compliance, and conduct field audits to ensure safe loop testing operations.
Mentorship & Skill Development:
Train and mentor junior and mid-level loop checking staff, fostering a high-performance team and promoting technical upskilling.
Multi-Discipline Coordination:
Align loop testing activities with mechanical completion, control logic validation, and energization plans.
Leadership in Commissioning:
Drive the completion of loop checks as critical-path activities in project commissioning and plant readiness.
High-Volume Loop Execution:
Manage loop verification efforts across hundreds to thousands of I/O points with accuracy, speed, and compliance.
Turnover and Punch Management:
Ensure system readiness for client handover by clearing loop-related punch items and completing turnover packages.
Reporting & Progress Tracking:
Provide daily/weekly loop check progress reports and ensure traceability using loop completion tracking tools or commissioning software (e.g., WinPCS, Hexagon, etc.).
Diploma or Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, or related engineering field.
8+ years of field experience in instrumentation & control systems, with 3+ years in a supervisory or lead technician role.
Deep understanding of analog/digital signals, loop diagrams, P&IDs, and wiring schematics.
Proficiency with HART communicators, loop calibrators, multimeters, and signal simulators.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Experience working on large-scale industrial projects (e.g., oil & gas, petrochemicals, power plants, water treatment).
