The Senior Loop Checking Technician leads and oversees the loop checking process for analog and digital signals across all instrumentation and control systems. This role ensures complete and accurate testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of control loops between field instruments and PLC/DCS systems, supporting project commissioning, safety, and operational readiness.
Leadership of Loop Checking Activities:
Supervise and coordinate loop checks across multiple units or systems, ensuring accurate verification of analog (4–20mA, 0–10V) and digital (dry/wet contact) signals.
Advanced Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
Resolve complex issues related to signal integrity, grounding, shielding, or instrumentation faults in analog and digital loops.
Loop Verification & Simulation:
Conduct advanced simulation of inputs and outputs using loop calibrators, signal generators, and HART communicators to validate instrument performance.
QA/QC Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure loop checks meet engineering standards and project specifications; oversee redlining of loop diagrams, loop folders, and mechanical completion records.
Interface with Control Systems:
Collaborate closely with PLC/DCS/SCADA teams to validate field signal responses in control logic, graphics, and alarms.
Mentorship and Training:
Guide junior and mid-level technicians in loop testing techniques, documentation practices, and field safety standards.
Commissioning Readiness & Turnover:
Ensure all loops are fully tested, documented, and punch-cleared for pre-commissioning sign-off and client handover.
Safety & Compliance:
Implement and enforce safety procedures (LOTO, PTW) and ensure compliance with site and industry safety protocols during loop testing.
Systematic Loop Completion:
Manage end-to-end loop check execution aligned with the commissioning sequence and system handover priorities.
Control System Integration:
Deep involvement in verifying that all field instrumentation communicates and behaves correctly in the PLC/DCS/SCADA environment.
Multi-Discipline Coordination:
Interface with electrical, control, mechanical, and process teams to resolve multi-discipline issues during commissioning.
Documentation Control:
Ensure integrity and traceability of loop documentation, including signed loop sheets, updated as-builts, and turnover dossiers.
High-Reliability Execution:
Support time-sensitive commissioning projects with quality, accuracy, and attention to risk mitigation for plant startup.
Diploma or Technical Certification (ITI/Polytechnic) in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Electronics.
Minimum 5 years of loop checking, instrumentation commissioning, or plant startup experience in process industries.
Expertise in using calibration and testing tools (multimeters, loop calibrators, HART communicators, signal simulators).
Strong understanding of control loops, field wiring, signal processing, and industrial protocols (HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Profibus).
Ability to read and interpret complex P&IDs, loop diagrams, I/O lists, wiring schematics, and control narratives.
Good communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with commissioning management software and turnover systems is a plus.
