The Logistics Manager – Heavy Equipment Transport is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the transportation and delivery of large, over-dimensional heavy equipment, including turbines, generators, compressors, and related components. This role ensures safe, timely, and cost-effective multimodal logistics solutions aligned with project schedules, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder requirements.
Develop and implement logistics plans for heavy equipment transport covering road, rail, barge, ocean freight, and intermodal transfers.
Conduct route surveys, load assessments, and transportation feasibility studies to determine optimal transport solutions.
Coordinate with vendors, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth shipment flow.
Manage all aspects of shipment execution including packing, loading, securing, transport, and unloading of turbines and heavy equipment.
Ensure compliance with all applicable transportation laws, permits, weight/height restrictions, and safety regulations.
Manage documentation including customs clearance, import/export licenses, and transport manifests.
Identify and mitigate transport and handling risks including equipment damage, delays, and environmental hazards.
Oversee compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards and implement best practices in heavy lift logistics.
Liaise with project management, procurement, engineering, and site teams to align logistics activities with project timelines.
Provide regular status updates, track shipments, and resolve transport issues proactively.
Select and manage relationships with carriers, rigging companies, heavy haul providers, and customs agents.
Negotiate service contracts, monitor performance KPIs, and enforce service level agreements (SLAs).
Multimodal logistics for over-dimensional, heavy, and sensitive equipment including gas and steam turbines
Route engineering, heavy haul trucking, and specialized rigging operations
Compliance with local and international transport regulations and permitting
Integration with project schedules and coordination across multiple stakeholders
Risk mitigation including cargo insurance and contingency planning
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Mechanical/Civil Engineering, or related field
Experience: Minimum 8 years of experience managing heavy equipment logistics, with at least 3 years focused on turbines or heavy industrial cargo
Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of heavy lift transport methods, rigging, and load securing
Familiarity with transport regulations, customs procedures, and international shipping standards
Skills:
Excellent project coordination and communication skills
Proficient in logistics software and tracking systems
Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and vendors effectively
Certified Logistics Professional (CLP) or equivalent
Heavy Lift/Rigging Certification (NCCCO or equivalent)
PMP or Lean Six Sigma (optional)
