We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Instrumentation Engineer to oversee the design, integration, and validation of instrumentation systems for both flight and ground support systems. This role plays a critical part in bridging airborne data acquisition systems with ground-based monitoring and diagnostics, ensuring performance, safety, and data integrity across aerospace testing and operational environments.
Lead the design, specification, and integration of flight instrumentation systems including sensors, transducers, wiring harnesses, and DAQ units.
Oversee ground instrumentation and telemetry systems for test stands, engine runs, environmental chambers, and flight simulation.
Coordinate with flight test engineers, systems engineering, and software teams to ensure proper data capture and synchronization.
Select and validate instrumentation components based on operational environments (vibration, temperature, EMI/EMC).
Develop system architecture, interface control documents (ICDs), and instrumentation schematics.
Ensure calibration, signal conditioning, and reliability of all sensors and measurement systems.
Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of instrumentation hardware both on aircraft and at test facilities.
Maintain documentation and compliance with aerospace and defense quality standards.
Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI): Development of instrumentation packages for experimental and production aircraft.
Telemetry and Data Acquisition: Real-time and post-flight data capture and streaming from airborne and ground systems.
Environmental Testing: Instrumentation for thermal, vibration, and altitude simulations.
Sensor Fusion & Signal Integrity: Integration of multi-domain sensor inputs with minimal noise and drift.
System Safety & Redundancy: Implementation of fail-safe measures and backup instrumentation in critical systems.
Regulatory & Standards Compliance: Adherence to RTCA DO-160, ARINC 429, IEEE, and other applicable standards.
Cross-functional Coordination: Liaison with avionics, propulsion, software, and quality teams for cohesive system integration.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Aerospace Engineering.
6+ years of experience in aerospace instrumentation with exposure to both airborne and ground-based systems.
Proficiency with instrumentation software tools (e.g., NI LabVIEW, DEWESoft, LMS Test.Lab) and data acquisition systems.
Strong knowledge of aircraft systems, flight testing procedures, and aerospace-grade hardware.
Excellent project coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
