Job Title: Technical Manager

Job Summary:

The Technical Manager - Lab Management (Senior Level) is responsible for overseeing the technical operations of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and maintaining the highest levels of quality and efficiency. This role involves managing technical staff, implementing innovative processes, optimizing resources, and ensuring that all laboratory activities align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of lab technicians, engineers, and technical staff, ensuring efficient operations and skill development.
  • Define team roles, allocate responsibilities, and set performance targets for the technical staff.
  • Lead technical training programs to enhance staff proficiency in lab processes, equipment, and standards.

Lab Operations and Process Optimization:

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, ensuring all tests, calibrations, and analyses meet quality standards and deadlines.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to enhance lab efficiency and accuracy.
  • Evaluate existing processes and workflows to identify and implement improvements, minimizing downtime and waste.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Ensure the laboratory complies with international quality standards such as ISO 17025, ISO 9001, and other relevant certifications.
  • Conduct internal audits and prepare the lab for external quality assessments and certifications.
  • Monitor and maintain documentation for all lab activities, ensuring traceability and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Technical Oversight:

  • Act as the technical authority for complex tests, calibrations, and problem-solving activities within the lab.
  • Provide guidance on advanced technical challenges, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • Oversee the acquisition, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment to ensure operational excellence.

Project Management and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Manage multiple lab projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders to align lab activities with organizational objectives and client expectations.
  • Communicate project progress, challenges, and results to senior leadership and external clients.

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):

  • Ensure all laboratory operations comply with safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and implement corrective actions to mitigate hazards.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and responsibility among lab staff.

Innovation and Strategic Development:

  • Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in laboratory management and apply them to improve lab operations.
  • Recommend and implement new technologies, tools, and methods to enhance lab capabilities.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for laboratory growth and expansion.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations, testing methodologies, and industry standards such as ISO 17025.
  • Expertise in lab equipment, calibration procedures, and advanced analytical tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills for addressing technical and operational challenges.
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills to manage and motivate a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in lab management software and tools for scheduling, tracking, and reporting activities.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical field such as Laboratory Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or Instrumentation.
  • Advanced certifications in lab management or quality systems (e.g., ISO 17025 Lead Auditor, Certified Lab Manager) are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 8-10 years of experience in laboratory operations, including at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale laboratory projects and maintaining high-quality standards.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Advanced Medical Device Control Systems:
    Lead the calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of complex medical device control systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance.

  2. Patient Monitoring Equipment Management:
    Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of critical patient monitoring equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability in clinical settings.

  3. Regulatory Compliance (FDA, ISO standards):
    Ensure full compliance with FDA regulations and ISO standards, leading audits, inspections, and ensuring that all activities meet regulatory guidelines.

  4. Calibration and Maintenance of Medical Equipment:
    Manage and optimize the calibration, testing, and preventive maintenance schedules for all medical devices and equipment used in the facility.

  5. Team Leadership and Training:
    Mentor and guide junior and mid-level technicians, ensuring continuous professional development and maintaining high standards of operational efficiency.

  6. Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
    Drive improvements in calibration techniques, lab operations, and medical device technologies, integrating cutting-edge solutions to enhance capabilities.

Tools and Equipment:

  • Proficiency in using advanced lab equipment such as spectrometers, chromatographs, and calibrators.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and quality management software.

Other Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and report preparation.
  • Commitment to maintaining safety, quality, and compliance in all lab activities.
  • Strategic mindset to align lab operations with organizational goals and long-term vision.
