Job Title: Senior - Internet Service Providers (ISP) Technicians

Job Summary

The Senior ISP Technician is a highly skilled professional responsible for managing advanced network installations, troubleshooting, and optimization. In this role, the technician leads complex projects, mentors junior staff, and ensures that the network infrastructure operates efficiently and reliably for the ISP. This position requires a deep understanding of networking protocols and ISP infrastructure, along with strong leadership and training abilities to guide a team of technicians in delivering exceptional service to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Network Design and Installation:
    • Lead large-scale installations, including fiber optics and other advanced network services.
    • Design and implement network configurations based on client requirements and company standards.
  • Troubleshooting and Optimization:
    • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex network failures or performance issues.
    • Analyze and improve network performance through proactive optimization strategies.
  • Team Mentorship:
    • Mentor junior and mid-level technicians, providing guidance on troubleshooting techniques and customer service strategies.
    • Train new staff on best practices for network installations, maintenance, and support.
  • Network Upgrades:
    • Plan and oversee upgrades to customer networks, ensuring minimal disruption and improved service quality.
    • Test new technologies and evaluate their potential integration into existing systems.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Prepare detailed technical documentation on network configurations, troubleshooting steps, and equipment maintenance.
    • Provide regular performance reports to management, including recommendations for improvements.

Key Focus Areas

  • Leading the design and installation of large-scale network services.
  • Troubleshooting and optimizing advanced network issues.
  • Mentoring and training junior technicians while overseeing day-to-day network operations.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Expert-level understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF).
  • Deep knowledge of ISP infrastructure, including fiber optics, routers, and switches.
  • Ability to resolve advanced network issues and optimize infrastructure performance.
  • Leadership and training abilities.

Educational Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCIP).

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in network installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Tools and Equipment

  • Advanced diagnostic tools (Wireshark, SolarWinds).
  • Routers, fiber optics, switches, and network management software.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations and solve problems quickly.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular business hours for network maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on quality assurance.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer locations.
