Job Title: Instrumentation and Metrology Engineer
Job Summary:
The Instrumentation and Metrology Engineer at the fresher level is responsible for assisting in the calibration, maintenance, and testing of instrumentation and measurement systems. The role involves gaining hands-on experience with precision metrology equipment, developing a foundational understanding of instrumentation principles, and ensuring compliance with quality and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Instrumentation and Calibration Support:
- Assist in the calibration and testing of sensors, transducers, and other measurement devices.
- Learn to use precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Ensure calibration activities meet defined accuracy and quality standards.
System Maintenance and Testing:
- Support the maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation systems.
- Conduct basic performance checks to verify system accuracy and functionality.
- Assist in implementing preventive maintenance schedules under supervision.
Metrology and Data Analysis:
- Collect and analyze measurement data to verify the accuracy of systems and instruments.
- Support the creation of calibration reports and maintain detailed documentation of activities.
- Learn to interpret technical drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with requirements.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Adhere to quality control procedures and assist in ensuring compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 or other relevant standards.
- Follow safety protocols during calibration and testing activities.
- Participate in audits and assessments to maintain the integrity of measurement processes.
Learning and Development:
- Attend training sessions to gain proficiency in metrology and instrumentation principles.
- Shadow senior engineers to build hands-on expertise in precision measurement and calibration techniques.
- Gain familiarity with industry standards, such as ANSI, NIST, and ISO guidelines.

- Strong analytical skills for interpreting data and identifying discrepancies.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and document activities.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Basic certifications or coursework in metrology or instrumentation are advantageous but not mandatory.
Experience:
- No prior experience required; internships or academic projects related to instrumentation or metrology are beneficial.
Tools and Technologies:
- Exposure to calibration equipment such as pressure calibrators, signal generators, and multimeters.
- Familiarity with data collection and analysis tools, including Microsoft Excel and basic statistical software.
- Basic knowledge of metrology equipment such as CMM or surface measurement tools is a plus.
