Instrumentation and Control Technicians

Job Summary:

The Instrumentation & Control Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of industrial instrumentation and automation systems. This role involves supervising a team of technicians, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and coordinating with other departments to maintain efficient and reliable control systems. The ideal candidate should have strong technical expertise in PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and process instrumentation with leadership skills to manage daily operations in industries such as oil & gas, power generation, manufacturing, and water treatment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the installation, calibration, and maintenance of field instruments, sensors, actuators, and control systems.
  • Oversee the troubleshooting and repair of PLC, SCADA, DCS, HMI, and automation control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations (ISA, IEC, ANSI, OSHA, ATEX).
  • Manage preventive and predictive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Provide technical guidance on loop tuning, PID controllers, and advanced process control strategies.
  • Review and interpret P&ID diagrams, wiring schematics, and control logic for system improvements.
  • Lead a team of technicians, assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide training.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams for system upgrades and modifications.
  • Oversee industrial communication networks such as Modbus, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus, and Ethernet/IP.
  • Prepare technical reports, maintenance logs, and system documentation for audits and compliance.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Strong understanding of industrial instrumentation, control systems, and process automation.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, SCADA configuration, and DCS operation (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Honeywell, Schneider).
  • Hands-on experience with calibration and diagnostics of field instruments (temperature, pressure, flow, level).
  • Expertise in troubleshooting industrial control loops, communication faults, and system failures.
  • Knowledge of safety instrumented systems (SIS), emergency shutdown (ESD), and fire & gas systems.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor junior technicians, ensuring skill development and teamwork.
  • Understanding of instrument selection, process control strategies, and automation optimization.
  • Familiarity with industrial safety standards, hazardous area classification (ATEX, IECEx), and explosion-proof equipment.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., ISA Certified Control Systems Technician, CompEx, TÜV Functional Safety) are a plus.

Experience:

  • 5-7 years of experience in instrumentation, control systems, and automation within industrial settings.
  • Hands-on experience in commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of PLC/DCS systems.
  • Experience in leading maintenance teams and managing industrial projects.
  • Exposure to shutdowns, turnarounds, and plant startups is beneficial.

Tools and Equipment:

  • Proficiency in PLC programming tools (Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, Schneider Unity Pro).
  • Experience with SCADA/DCS software (Wonderware, WinCC, DeltaV, Honeywell Experion).
  • Hands-on knowledge of calibration tools (HART communicators, pressure calibrators, loop testers).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, EPLAN, or other industrial design software for control system layouts.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills to manage teams and collaborate with engineers.
  • Ability to handle emergency troubleshooting situations and support operations in high-pressure environments.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and industrial facilities as required.
