Instrumentation and Control Technicians
Job Summary:
The Instrumentation & Control Technician is an entry-level role designed to provide foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in industrial instrumentation and control systems. This position involves assisting senior engineers and technicians in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation devices while gaining exposure to PLC, SCADA, DCS, and process automation technologies. The role offers a strong foundation for career growth in industrial automation and control engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of industrial sensors, transmitters, and controllers.
- Support the troubleshooting and repair of control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and DCS.
- Learn to interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals under supervision.
- Conduct routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal system performance.
- Assist in preparing and updating technical documentation, reports, and system manuals.
- Participate in training sessions and hands-on workshops to develop technical skills.
- Follow safety regulations and industry best practices during all activities.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Basic understanding of instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and HMI.
- Familiarity with industrial sensors, actuators, transmitters, and control loops.
- Knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles related to instrumentation.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools like multimeters, loop calibrators, and HART communicators.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
Educational Qualifications:
- Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
Key Focus Areas:
- Process Instrumentation & Control: Assisting in the calibration and maintenance of industrial sensors and transmitters.
- PLC & SCADA Systems: Supporting the configuration and troubleshooting of automation control systems.
- Safety & Alarm Systems: Learning and aiding in the maintenance of emergency shutdown (ESD) and alarm systems.
- Regulatory Compliance: Understanding industry standards (ISA, IEC, ANSI) and contributing to documentation efforts.
Experience:
- No prior experience required – Internships or academic projects in automation and instrumentation are advantageous.
Tools and Equipment:
- Basic knowledge of PLC programming tools (Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley RSLogix/Studio 5000).
- Hands-on familiarity with calibration tools (multimeters, loop calibrators, oscilloscopes).
- Exposure to CAD software for control system design is a plus.
