Job Title: Instrumentation & Control Maintenance Technician (Power Plants)
Job Summary:
The Junior Instrumentation & Control Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems in power plants. This role involves independently handling basic tasks while supporting senior technicians and engineers with more complex activities. The technician ensures operational reliability and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
System Maintenance and Calibration:
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of instrumentation devices, such as sensors, transmitters, controllers, and actuators.
- Assist in maintaining Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) for consistent system performance.
- Test, verify, and adjust instrumentation systems to ensure accurate readings and functionality.
Troubleshooting and Repairs:
- Identify and resolve basic faults in instrumentation and control systems using diagnostic tools.
- Support senior technicians in addressing complex issues and system failures.
- Document and escalate unresolved problems to ensure timely resolution.
Installation and Upgrades:
- Assist in installing and commissioning new instrumentation and control equipment.
- Replace defective components and ensure system reliability during upgrades or retrofits.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor system performance and report anomalies or irregularities to supervisors.
- Maintain accurate documentation of calibration activities, test results, and maintenance logs.
- Prepare basic technical reports on system status and maintenance activities.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow organizational safety protocols and adhere to industry standards in all activities.
- Participate in safety drills and risk assessments for instrumentation systems.
- Validate and maintain safety-critical systems, such as emergency shutdown mechanisms.
Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to ensure seamless system integration and performance.
- Provide support for planned maintenance and system inspections as required.

- Instrumentation Systems: Perform routine calibration and maintenance of field instruments.
- Troubleshooting: Resolve basic issues and assist in identifying more complex problems.

Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Solid understanding of instrumentation and control devices, including pressure, temperature, and flow sensors.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, such as multimeters, loop calibrators, and signal generators.
- Basic troubleshooting and repair skills for instrumentation systems.
- Familiarity with industrial automation systems, including SCADA and PLCs.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory standards for power plant environments.
Educational Qualifications:
- Diploma or Associate’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Certifications or training in instrumentation or control systems (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Honeywell) are desirable.
Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in instrumentation and control system maintenance, preferably in power plant or industrial environments.
- Hands-on experience with routine maintenance and calibration tasks is preferred.
Tools and Technologies:
- Proficiency with tools like multimeters, loop calibrators, pressure gauges, and signal generators.
- Familiarity with SCADA, DCS, and PLC platforms is an advantage.
