The Senior Instrument Planning and Material Controller is responsible for planning, tracking, and managing the flow of all instrumentation materials required for construction and commissioning activities. This role includes forecasting material needs, ensuring on-time deliveries, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and leading material control processes across engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) phases.
Develop detailed Material Requirement Plans (MRPs) from IFC drawings, BOQs, and project schedules.
Forecast short-term and long-term material needs aligned with construction milestones.
Monitor critical path material availability, long-lead items, and support procurement strategy.
Supervise site inventory levels for cables, transmitters, control valves, tubing, junction boxes, etc.
Lead material issuance and return processes, ensuring traceability and minimal wastage.
Implement stock reconciliation processes, conduct physical verification, and address inventory discrepancies.
Collaborate with the procurement team to prepare material requisitions, review POs, and follow up on deliveries.
Interface with vendors for expediting deliveries and resolving non-conformance issues (NCRs).
Ensure technical compliance of materials with project specifications through coordination with QA/QC.
Integrate material availability with project schedules and construction work fronts.
Contribute to look-ahead plans, work packs, and installation sequences based on material readiness.
Track material consumption rates, delivery progress, and installation status for reporting.
Mentor junior material controllers and planners; delegate tasks, provide guidance, and ensure team performance.
Maintain accurate and auditable records: MTOs, MRNs, MIVs, ROs, stock reports, etc.
Coordinate material reconciliation and final project closeout documentation.
Expert knowledge of instrumentation materials, hook-up components, and cable types.
Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP systems (SAP, SmartPlant Materials, Oracle, etc.).
Strong understanding of P&IDs, hook-up drawings, IO lists, and installation procedures.
Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills.
Strong analytical skills for material forecasting and gap analysis.
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Instrumentation / Electrical / Industrial Engineering
5+ years of experience in instrumentation material planning/control in EPC or large industrial projects
Prior experience in oil & gas, refinery, petrochemical, or power generation sectors highly desirable
