The Junior Instrument Hook-up Drafter/Designer supports the preparation of instrument hook-up drawings, installation details, and basic layouts for instrumentation systems under the supervision of senior designers. The role focuses on developing technical drafting skills, understanding installation standards, and contributing to accurate project documentation.
Prepare 2D hook-up drawings for field-mounted instruments like transmitters, switches, analyzers, and control valves.
Create mechanical and pneumatic hook-ups showing supports, tubing, fittings, impulse lines, and installation materials.
Follow standard templates and assist in customizing hook-ups as per project specifications.
Use AutoCAD or MicroStation to create and edit instrumentation drawings.
Apply proper layers, symbols, title blocks, and drawing standards.
Update drawings as per redlines and markups received from engineers or senior designers.
Assist in generating material take-offs from hook-up drawings for supports, tubing, fittings, and other accessories.
Organize MTOs in line with procurement and construction documentation needs.
Work with cross-functional teams (piping, electrical, mechanical) to align instrumentation layouts with overall plant design.
Participate in internal reviews to resolve basic layout issues or installation queries.
Build foundational knowledge of instrumentation equipment, installation methods, and hook-up standards (ISA, IEC, project-specific).
Learn common field practices for installation of impulse lines, brackets, and instrument supports.
Gain exposure to documentation control processes and revision tracking.
Basic understanding of field instrumentation and installation principles.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD (essential); MicroStation or similar CAD tools is a plus.
Familiarity with standard instrument symbols, hook-up diagrams, and basic MTO generation.
Detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn in a fast-paced project environment.
Diploma in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or CAD Drafting
0–2 years of experience in instrumentation drafting (freshers with training acceptable)
Exposure to industrial instrumentation drawings or EPC environments is an advantage
