The Junior Instrument Fitter is responsible for assisting in the installation of field instrumentation systems, including tube fitting, bracket mounting, impulse line routing, and hook-up of transmitters and gauges. This role supports senior technicians in the mechanical assembly of instrumentation and ensures work is performed safely and according to industry standards and specifications.
Assist in the fitting, routing, and secure installation of stainless steel or copper tubing for impulse lines.
Perform basic hook-up work for transmitters, pressure gauges, control valves, and local panels under supervision.
Prepare and install instrument supports, brackets, trays, and junction boxes.
Assist in leak testing and flushing of tubing systems before commissioning.
Follow engineering hook-up drawings, isometrics, and P&IDs during installation tasks.
Use appropriate tools for tube bending, swaging, cutting, and clamping.
Maintain clean and organized tools and ensure proper housekeeping of the work area.
Follow site safety rules and participate in toolbox talks and permit-to-work procedures.
Coordinate with senior fitters, welders, and technicians to ensure accurate completion of field installation work.
Report material shortages, installation issues, or damage to equipment to the supervisor promptly.
Technical Certificate or ITI in Instrumentation, Mechanical Fitting, or a related trade
0–2 years of experience in instrumentation fitting or mechanical assembly (internships or site training preferred)
Basic understanding of process instruments and field installation components
Familiar with tube fitting tools (e.g., tube benders, cutters, deburring tools, swaging tools)
Willingness to work in outdoor/field environments under supervision
Manual dexterity and attention to detail in mechanical work
Ability to read basic layout drawings and follow instructions
Teamwork, time management, and a strong safety attitude
Eagerness to learn and grow into more technical roles
Physical fitness and readiness for site-based work
