Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Instrument Cable Tray Installer assists in the installation, routing, and support of cable trays used for laying instrument and control cables in industrial environments. This entry-level role is focused on learning proper installation techniques, ensuring safety compliance, and supporting senior technicians during site execution.


Key Focus Areas & Responsibilities:

1. Cable Tray Installation Support

  • Assist in mounting and aligning instrument cable trays on structures, walls, or ceilings.

  • Follow layout drawings and routing plans under supervision.

  • Support in cutting, bending, and joining tray sections using hand and power tools.

2. Cable Routing Preparation

  • Prepare cable trays for pulling instrument and signal cables.

  • Install tray accessories such as bends, tees, reducers, and couplers as instructed.

  • Ensure tray cleanliness and proper support spacing as per project standards.

3. Material Handling & Site Readiness

  • Assist in unloading, moving, and organizing cable trays and related materials at the site.

  • Check material availability against installation drawings or work packs.

  • Maintain tools and keep the work area organized.

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Follow safety procedures for working at height, using ladders, scaffolds, and power tools.

  • Wear appropriate PPE and participate in toolbox talks and site inductions.

  • Learn to identify risks such as sharp edges, pinch points, and potential fall hazards.

5. Learning & Team Support

  • Understand basic layout plans, tray routing symbols, and project specifications.

  • Support electricians and instrument fitters in cable pulling and termination after tray work.

  • Develop familiarity with industrial site practices, tools, and installation methods.


Key Skills to Develop:

  • Understanding of cable tray systems (ladder, perforated, wire mesh).

  • Use of basic tools: hacksaws, drills, grinders, and levels.

  • Ability to read and interpret layout and routing drawings.

  • Safe working practices, teamwork, and communication.


Qualifications:

  • ITI / High School / Diploma in Electrical or Instrumentation field (preferred)

  • 0–2 years of site experience (apprenticeship or internship experience is a plus)

  • Physically fit and comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, or elevated platforms
