Roles & Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Senior Instrument Air and Tubing Technician is responsible for leading the installation, inspection, and maintenance of instrument air lines and tubing systems used in industrial pneumatic controls. The role includes interpreting technical drawings, supervising tubing crews, performing advanced diagnostics, and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the field installation and repair of stainless steel/copper tubing for instrument air systems, impulse lines, and pneumatic controls.

  • Supervise and execute precise tube bending, routing, swaging, and mechanical support for various field instruments (e.g., transmitters, valves, gauges).

  • Conduct system checks, leak testing, air flushing, and pressure verifications to ensure tubing system reliability and safety.

  • Review and interpret P&IDs, hook-up drawings, tubing layouts, and site plans.

  • Ensure compliance with installation standards (e.g., ISA, API) and safety protocols including LOTO and confined space entry.

  • Coordinate closely with I&C, mechanical, and process teams during shutdowns and commissioning.

  • Maintain documentation such as tubing checklists, as-built sketches, and maintenance records.

  • Monitor tool and material usage and raise procurement needs for tubing, fittings, supports, and testing tools.

  • Mentor and train junior and mid-level technicians, ensuring high workmanship standards.

  • Lead safety briefings, toolbox talks, and enforce plant safety and quality protocols in all tubing-related work.


Qualifications:

  • ITI / Diploma in Instrumentation, Mechanical Fitting, or Industrial Maintenance

  • 8–12 years of experience in instrumentation air and tubing systems, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role

  • Strong understanding of pneumatic systems, tube routing techniques, leak diagnostics, and hook-up procedures

  • Proficient in using bending tools, swaging kits, and tube support systems

  • Experience with documentation, material take-offs, and shutdown coordination in industrial plants


Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent technical and troubleshooting skills in pneumatic systems

  • Leadership and supervision of field technicians and contractors

  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering drawings and technical standards

  • Effective communicator with operations, engineering, and HSE teams

  • High attention to detail, safety, and quality of work
