The Instrument Air and Tubing Technician (Mid-Level) is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of instrument air lines and tubing systems that serve field instrumentation, control valves, and pneumatic equipment. The role includes reading drawings, performing precision tube bending, troubleshooting leaks, and ensuring system integrity under minimal supervision.
Install and route stainless steel/copper tubing and air lines for field-mounted transmitters, positioners, and pneumatic valves.
Perform tube cutting, bending, swaging, and fitting according to hook-up drawings, isometrics, and site standards.
Inspect and repair leaks, blockages, or pressure losses in air line systems.
Support pre-commissioning activities such as air flushing, leak testing, and continuity checks.
Interpret P&IDs, tubing layouts, and vendor installation manuals.
Coordinate with instrument fitters and panel technicians for integrated hook-up execution.
Monitor air line integrity and ensure tubing is adequately supported and protected from mechanical damage.
Record work activities and material usage in maintenance logs or CMMS systems.
Follow proper LOTO procedures, PPE requirements, and safety standards during all work.
Guide junior technicians and provide on-the-job training when needed.
Diploma / ITI in Instrumentation, Mechanical Fitting, or Industrial Maintenance
4–7 years of experience in industrial instrumentation tubing and air line installation
Proficient in using tube bending tools, swaging kits, and leak detection techniques
Familiarity with pneumatic instrumentation and utility air systems
Capable of reading and interpreting P&IDs, isometric drawings, and technical instructions
Skilled in tubing layout, routing, and mechanical fitting
Strong troubleshooting and maintenance abilities
Solid understanding of plant safety practices (HSE, permit-to-work, confined space, etc.)
Clear communication with cross-functional teams and junior staff
Detail-oriented with a high degree of workmanship quality
