The Senior Inspection Engineer – Boilers is a subject matter expert responsible for overseeing the inspection, assessment, and compliance of boilers, pressure vessels, and high-pressure systems. This role ensures safe operation and regulatory conformity through API 510, NBIC, ASME, and local jurisdictional requirements. The position involves leadership in inspection planning, outage execution, risk-based methodologies, and mentoring of junior inspectors.
Lead code-compliant inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, piping systems, and heat exchangers under API 510, NBIC, and ASME standards.
Develop and implement inspection plans, checklists, and outage work scopes aligned with asset criticality and RBI.
Oversee and interpret NDT results (UT, PT, MT, RT, VT) and ensure timely follow-up on repair actions.
Perform fitness-for-service (FFS) assessments and recommend safe operating limits using API 579 or equivalent standards.
Coordinate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to plan and verify repairs, alterations, and rerates.
Prepare and review detailed inspection reports, remaining life assessments, corrosion rate calculations, and audit documentation.
Lead shutdown/outage inspection campaigns, manage contractor inspection activities, and ensure safety compliance.
Ensure timely certification and compliance with local jurisdictional regulations, boiler laws, and inspection intervals.
Support implementation and continuous improvement of Mechanical Integrity (MI) and Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) programs.
Mentor junior inspectors and engineers on inspection techniques, code interpretation, and report writing.
Represent the organization in internal and external audits or regulatory inspections.
Mechanical Integrity Program Oversight
Provide technical leadership in boiler and pressure equipment inspections and long-term reliability planning.
Fitness-for-Service & Risk Assessment
Apply engineering judgment and code knowledge to evaluate operational risks and recommend corrective actions.
Outage Inspection Leadership
Manage all inspection and compliance activities during critical boiler outages or overhauls.
Code Compliance & Documentation
Ensure full alignment with API 510, NBIC, ASME BPVC, and regulatory mandates.
Mentorship & Audit Readiness
Train junior staff and ensure accurate recordkeeping for internal and third-party audits.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a closely related field.
8–15 years of experience in boiler and pressure equipment inspection in industrial, power generation, or petrochemical settings.
Valid and current certifications:
API 510 – Pressure Vessel Inspector (mandatory)
NBIC “IS” – Inservice Inspector (mandatory)
Strong working knowledge of ASME Sections I, IV, V, VIII, and IX.
Proficiency in NDT interpretation, corrosion mechanisms, and inspection data analysis.
Familiarity with FFS (API 579), RBI tools, and inspection management systems (IMS).
Proven leadership in inspection planning, contractor supervision, and compliance audits.
Advanced knowledge of boiler degradation mechanisms, such as creep, FAC, thermal fatigue, and hydrogen damage.
Experience with CMMS and digital integrity platforms (e.g., SAP PM, Meridium, PCMS).
Strong communication and report writing skills, capable of interfacing with regulatory bodies and senior management.
