Job Description: Junior - IP Planning

Job Summary

The Junior IP Planning professional plays a crucial role in the design, allocation, and maintenance of IP address schemes and network infrastructure. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals looking to develop their skills in IP resource management while working closely with experienced team members. The successful candidate will assist in ensuring optimal utilization of IP resources and compliance with industry standards, contributing to the overall efficiency and security of the network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, allocation, and management of IPv4 and IPv6 address spaces to ensure efficient use of IP resources.
  • Support the configuration of subnetting, routing, and IP assignment for various network components, collaborating with senior network engineers.
  • Work closely with network engineers to document IP address schemes and update internal databases, ensuring accuracy and accessibility of information.
  • Assist in monitoring IP conflicts, overlaps, and address exhaustion issues, proactively identifying potential problems.
  • Maintain records of IP allocations and update IP Address Management (IPAM) tools to reflect current network configurations.
  • Conduct basic network diagnostics and report issues to senior IP planners, facilitating timely resolutions.
  • Learn and apply best practices in IP networking and address planning, enhancing personal and team performance.
  • Assist in implementing security policies for IP address management, contributing to the overall security posture of the organization.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Basic understanding of IP addressing, subnetting, and CIDR notation.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and routing protocols.
  • Familiarity with IPAM tools and network monitoring software, enhancing operational efficiency.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for IP conflicts and connectivity issues, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records, supporting effective IP resource management.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Networking, or a related field.
  • Certifications (Preferred): Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent entry-level networking certification.

Experience

  • Command-line interfaces for basic IP configuration (e.g., Cisco CLI, Linux commands).
