Job Title: Hydraulics Mechanic

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Mid-Level Hydraulics Mechanic to join our maintenance team and take on more responsibility in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing hydraulic systems and components in our manufacturing environment. As a mid-level technician, you will assist in the diagnosis and repair of hydraulic systems, work with complex hydraulic components, and ensure the continued smooth operation of machinery and equipment. You will also provide technical support and mentorship to junior team members and help optimize hydraulic maintenance processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Hydraulic System Maintenance and Repair:

    • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of hydraulic systems, including pumps, motors, actuators, and valves.
    • Diagnose and repair complex hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and advanced troubleshooting techniques.
    • Ensure that hydraulic systems are serviced and repaired in accordance with industry standards, minimizing downtime and extending the lifespan of equipment.
  2. Component Installation and Testing:

    • Lead the installation, calibration, and commissioning of new hydraulic components and systems.
    • Conduct thorough testing of installed hydraulic systems to ensure performance and reliability meet technical specifications and operational needs.
  3. Advanced Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

    • Provide advanced troubleshooting for hydraulic system failures, utilizing tools such as pressure gauges, flow meters, and diagnostic software.
    • Analyze system performance data, identify inefficiencies, and implement solutions to improve hydraulic system operation.
    • Develop solutions for recurring hydraulic issues and ensure that root causes are identified and addressed.
  4. Fluid Management and System Optimization:

    • Oversee the maintenance of hydraulic fluid quality, fluid changes, and proper lubrication of components to ensure optimal system function.
    • Implement fluid filtration and fluid replacement programs to reduce contaminants and ensure the longevity of hydraulic systems.
    • Work with engineering and production teams to optimize hydraulic system designs, improving performance and efficiency.
  5. Mentorship and Team Collaboration:

    • Mentor and train junior hydraulics mechanics, sharing technical knowledge and hands-on skills for troubleshooting and repair.
    • Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure that hydraulic systems are maintained on schedule and according to the established maintenance plan.
    • Support and collaborate with engineers and other departments to ensure seamless integration of hydraulic systems with other equipment.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and system modifications for hydraulic systems.
    • Prepare reports on hydraulic system performance, maintenance schedules, and repair histories for management review.
    • Document and report any safety concerns or compliance issues regarding hydraulic systems.
  7. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure all hydraulic maintenance activities are conducted following safety protocols and company policies.
    • Participate in safety audits and support the adherence to safety standards and environmental regulations related to hydraulic system maintenance.
    • Ensure all work areas are maintained in a clean, organized, and safe manner.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Vehicle Dynamics:

    • Contribute to the maintenance and optimization of hydraulic systems used in vehicle dynamics, focusing on stability and handling systems powered by hydraulics.
  2. Powertrain Systems:

    • Support the maintenance of hydraulic systems in powertrain components, such as transmissions and drivetrains, ensuring efficient operation and minimizing downtime.
  3. Structural Engineering:

    • Assist in maintaining hydraulic systems integrated with vehicle structures for performance and safety, ensuring that systems perform reliably under various conditions.
  4. Electronics & Electrical Systems:

    • Support the integration of hydraulic systems with electronic control systems, ensuring optimal system performance and communication between hydraulic and electronic components.
  5. Thermal Systems:

    • Ensure hydraulic systems related to thermal management, such as engine cooling and HVAC, are properly maintained and functioning to specification.
  6. Manufacturing & Assembly:

    • Contribute to the optimization of manufacturing and assembly processes involving hydraulic systems, focusing on improving system reliability, efficiency, and product quality.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent technical training and certifications.
    • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in hydraulic system maintenance, repair, or service.
  2. Technical Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, components, and troubleshooting techniques.
    • Experience with hydraulic diagnostics tools and performance testing equipment (e.g., pressure gauges, flow meters).
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting hydraulic schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
    • Knowledge of hydraulic fluid management, including filtration, contamination control, and fluid replacement processes.
  3. Soft Skills:

    • Strong problem-solving abilities with a methodical approach to troubleshooting mechanical systems.
    • Excellent communication skills to work with team members, engineers, and customers effectively.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Certification in hydraulic maintenance or related mechanical systems is a plus.
    • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies is beneficial.
    • Knowledge of safety protocols and environmental standards in industrial maintenance.
