Job Title: Hospital Automation Specialist

Job Summary:

The Mid-Level Hospital Automation Specialist is responsible for managing the implementation, optimization, and troubleshooting of advanced automation systems in healthcare environments. This role involves independently handling complex technical challenges, leading maintenance activities, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and reliable operation of automation technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

System Implementation and Optimization:

  • Manage the setup, configuration, and integration of hospital automation systems, including building management systems (BMS), patient monitoring solutions, and workflow platforms.
  • Oversee system upgrades and enhancements to meet evolving hospital needs and improve operational efficiency.
  • Document procedures for system configuration and create detailed user manuals for hospital staff.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of automation systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex system issues using advanced diagnostic tools and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for integration challenges and system downtime, collaborating with vendors and manufacturers as needed.

Regulatory Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure all automation activities comply with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, ISO 13485, and relevant local standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of system configurations, maintenance schedules, and incident reports for audits and compliance purposes.
  • Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary technical documentation and reports.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with IT, clinical staff, and facilities teams to align automation solutions with hospital operations.
  • Serve as a point of contact for vendors and contractors to address technical issues and coordinate system updates.
  • Train end-users on advanced features and proper usage of hospital automation systems.

Process Improvement and Innovation:

  • Identify and propose opportunities for workflow optimization and system enhancements to increase operational efficiency.
  • Research and recommend emerging automation technologies and tools to improve hospital processes.
  • Lead small projects to implement automation upgrades and monitor their effectiveness.

Mentorship and Team Leadership:

  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and ensure adherence to quality standards in system maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Proficiency in networking concepts, system integration, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and software for monitoring and maintaining automation systems.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory standards, such as HIPAA and ISO 13485, and their application to healthcare automation.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges and system optimization.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills for team collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in automation technologies, IT systems, or regulatory compliance (e.g., ISO 13485) are preferred.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting automation systems in healthcare or related industries.
  • Proven ability to independently handle advanced technical tasks and lead small projects.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Expertise in building management systems (BMS), hospital workflow platforms, and IoT technologies.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic and monitoring tools for automation systems.
  • Familiarity with software for managing system configurations and analyzing performance data.
