Job Title: Healthcare Automation Engineer

Job Summary:

The Manager-Level Healthcare Automation Engineer is responsible for leading the strategic planning, development, and management of healthcare automation systems. This role involves overseeing multi-site automation operations, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards, and aligning system performance with organizational goals. The manager drives innovation, mentors technical teams, and collaborates with stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency and reliability through advanced automation technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Leadership:

  • Develop and implement strategies for deploying and maintaining automation systems, including SCADA, PLCs, IoT, and AI-enabled technologies.
  • Define objectives, allocate resources, and set performance benchmarks to ensure system efficiency and reliability.
  • Monitor and analyze automation system KPIs to identify areas for improvement and innovation.

Automation System Oversight:

  • Oversee the maintenance, optimization, and troubleshooting of advanced healthcare automation systems.
  • Ensure the implementation of preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend system lifespan.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to keep the organization at the forefront of healthcare automation.

Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure all automation operations comply with healthcare regulations, including FDA, ISO 13485, and IEC 60601 standards.
  • Lead internal and external audits to maintain compliance certifications and address regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for system operations, maintenance, and quality assurance.

Team Management and Development:

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide mentorship, and identify training needs to enhance team capabilities.
  • Ensure team alignment with organizational goals and regulatory standards through regular communication and guidance.

Project Management:

  • Plan and execute large-scale automation projects, including system upgrades, integrations, and retrofits.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure successful delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to meet project requirements and objectives.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

  • Act as a primary liaison between clinical staff, IT teams, and senior management to align automation systems with healthcare operations.
  • Provide regular updates on system performance, compliance metrics, and project progress to stakeholders.
  • Address operational concerns and implement solutions to improve system reliability and user satisfaction.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive innovation by identifying opportunities to automate workflows and integrate predictive maintenance tools.
  • Introduce advanced technologies, such as AI and machine learning, to optimize system performance and reduce operational costs.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes to inform strategic planning and system upgrades.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of automation technologies, including SCADA, PLCs, IoT, and AI-driven systems.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare systems (HIS, EMR, PACS) and their integration with automation technologies.
  • Expertise in regulatory compliance (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 60601) and quality management systems.
  • Advanced project management skills, including resource planning, budgeting, and timeline management.
  • Leadership and organizational skills to manage teams and drive operational excellence.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced certifications in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) or automation technologies (e.g., PLC programming, SCADA systems) are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare automation or related fields, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role managing teams and projects.
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale automation projects and driving operational improvements.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency with advanced diagnostic tools, automation platforms (SCADA, PLCs, HMI), and IoT systems.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools and predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Working knowledge of project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).

Other Requirements:

  • Strong decision-making skills to address complex challenges and align technical operations with strategic goals.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and foster collaboration among multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to oversee multi-site operations and project implementations.
