The HVAC & Refrigeration Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, optimization, and maintenance support of HVAC and refrigeration systems within food-grade manufacturing environments. This role ensures systems operate efficiently, reliably, and in compliance with food safety and hygiene standards. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to support capital projects, energy efficiency initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts related to temperature control and environmental conditions.
Design, specify, and support installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems tailored for food-grade facilities, ensuring compliance with FDA, USDA, FSMA, and 3-A Sanitary Standards.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex operational issues affecting HVAC and refrigeration performance and reliability.
Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance plans in collaboration with maintenance teams.
Analyze system performance data to optimize energy efficiency, environmental control, and equipment lifecycle.
Support capital projects including system upgrades, expansions, and new installations.
Collaborate with Facilities, Production, Quality, and Engineering to align HVAC and refrigeration functions with production requirements and food safety standards.
Prepare and review technical documentation, drawings, equipment specifications, and commissioning reports.
Ensure adherence to safety regulations and industry best practices for refrigeration handling and HVAC operation.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians as needed.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, Refrigeration Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience:
3 to 5 years of HVAC and refrigeration engineering experience, preferably in food and beverage or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Hands-on experience with food-grade HVAC and refrigeration systems, including chillers, compressors, air handling units, and related controls.
Technical Skills:
Solid knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration equipment and systems design.
Familiarity with ASHRAE standards, 3-A Sanitary Standards, FDA/USDA regulations, and refrigeration safety codes.
Experience with CAD tools, energy modeling, and CMMS systems.
Understanding of controls, instrumentation, and automation in HVAC/refrigeration applications.
