Job Title:  HVAC & Refrigeration Systems Engineer (Food Grade)

Job Summary:

The Junior HVAC & Refrigeration Systems Engineer supports the design, operation, and maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems in food-grade manufacturing environments. This role assists in ensuring temperature control, air quality, and refrigeration reliability to meet strict food safety and regulatory standards. The position offers hands-on experience with food-safe HVAC and refrigeration equipment, working closely with senior engineers and maintenance teams to develop technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, installation, and maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems for food manufacturing facilities.

  • Support troubleshooting and repair efforts to maintain reliable temperature control and air quality.

  • Help monitor system performance and energy efficiency through data collection and analysis.

  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to ensure HVAC and refrigeration systems meet food safety (FDA, USDA, FSMA) and hygiene standards.

  • Assist in preparing technical documentation, equipment specifications, and maintenance procedures.

  • Participate in inspections, audits, and preventative maintenance activities.

  • Learn to apply industry standards such as ASHRAE, 3-A Sanitary Standards, and refrigeration safety codes.

  • Support capital projects and upgrades under guidance from senior engineers.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, Refrigeration Engineering, or related field (recent graduates encouraged to apply).

Experience:

  • Internship or co-op experience in HVAC/refrigeration preferred but not required.

  • Basic understanding of HVAC and refrigeration principles.

Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with HVAC and refrigeration components (compressors, condensers, evaporators, chillers).

  • Basic knowledge of control systems, sensors, and instrumentation.

  • Willingness to learn software tools like AutoCAD, HVAC simulation software, and CMMS.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Eagerness to develop technical expertise in food-grade HVAC and refrigeration.
