The Senior HVAC Technician (EPA Certified) is a highly experienced field technician responsible for independently performing advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and commissioning of commercial and industrial HVAC systems. This individual ensures environmental compliance, leads junior technicians, and maintains operational continuity for mission-critical HVAC systems.
Perform in-depth troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and control issues in:
VRF/VRV systems, rooftop units, chilled water systems, air handlers, ductable ACs
Conduct root-cause analysis and corrective action on:
Compressor failures, refrigerant leaks, sensor malfunctions, control faults
Replace major components such as expansion valves, inverter boards, and motors
Recover, evacuate, and recharge refrigerants safely per EPA Section 608 guidelines
Document refrigerant use and leaks accurately in logbooks or digital systems
Handle refrigerant tanks, storage, and disposal per environmental regulations
Execute and supervise routine PM tasks including:
Filter changes, lubrication, electrical terminal tightening, airflow checks
Coil cleaning, condenser washing, drain line clearing, insulation inspection
Ensure completion of digital checklists, PM reports, and maintenance records
Lead the startup and commissioning of new HVAC installations
Check refrigerant pressure, electrical load balance, airflow calibration, and BMS connectivity
Verify system performance and handover reports to QA or project managers
Guide junior and mid-level technicians in safe work practices, technical processes, and reporting
Conduct on-site toolbox talks and contribute to technician evaluations and training
Coordinate work schedules, tools, and materials for small service teams
Serve as the on-site technical lead for service calls, client briefings, and audits
Provide clients with performance reports, system recommendations, and preventive care tips
Ensure job tickets, refrigerant logs, and work orders are completed to standard
Ensure adherence to OSHA safety standards, job-specific permit systems, and HVAC codes
Lead the implementation of Lockout/Tagout, PPE usage, and confined space entry protocols
Participate in safety audits, incident reports, and corrective actions

Strong understanding of:
HVAC electrical systems, controls, refrigerant cycles
VRF/VRV, DX and chilled water systems
Air balancing, pressure drop analysis, and load assessments
Familiar with OEM service tools and BMS interfaces
Excellent documentation, communication, and time management skills
Proficient in using CMMS, mobile job ticketing apps, and digital refrigerant tracking tools
Diagnostic: Clamp meters, digital gauges, manifold sets, leak detectors, thermal imagers
Service: Recovery machines, vacuum pumps, refrigerant scales, flaring/brazing tools
Compliance: EPA logbooks, service tablets, CMMS platforms (Maximo, FSI, SAP)
