HVAC Engineering Manager – Food Plant

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled HVAC Engineering Manager to oversee the planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of HVAC systems within our food manufacturing facility. This role is critical to ensuring optimal climate control, air quality, and energy efficiency while adhering to strict food safety and regulatory standards. The HVAC Engineering Manager will lead a team of technicians and engineers and collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, and quality assurance teams.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead HVAC engineering projects from concept through implementation, ensuring alignment with plant needs and regulatory compliance (FDA, USDA, OSHA, etc.).

  • Supervise, mentor, and train a team of HVAC engineers and technicians.

  • Manage HVAC system design, installation, repair, and maintenance across the plant.

  • Ensure climate control systems maintain required temperature and humidity conditions for production, packaging, and storage areas.

  • Optimize energy usage and cost-efficiency while maintaining performance and compliance.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams during plant expansions or equipment upgrades.

  • Develop and maintain preventative and predictive maintenance programs.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of HVAC systems, including P&IDs, SOPs, maintenance logs, and compliance reports.

  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures related to HVAC operations.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and reliability.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent certification (preferred).

  • 8+ years of progressive HVAC engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership/management role.

  • Experience in food processing or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of industrial refrigeration (e.g., ammonia systems), compressed air systems, and ventilation requirements for food facilities.

  • Familiarity with HACCP, GMPs, and relevant building/mechanical codes.

  • Proficient with HVAC modeling and design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, HVAC Load Explorer).

  • Demonstrated project management and team leadership skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in industrial environments, including cold, hot, and humid conditions.

  • Periodic travel between plant facilities or to vendor sites may be required.
