Job Title: HSE Engineer

Job Summary:

The Junior HSE Engineer is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and monitoring of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) systems to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. This role involves conducting safety inspections, performing risk assessments, investigating incidents, and supporting the delivery of HSE training programs. The Junior Engineer works with limited supervision and contributes to improving workplace safety and environmental practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Health and Safety Monitoring:

  • Conduct regular safety inspections of the workplace, identifying hazards and recommending corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Monitor and report on the condition and availability of safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, alarms, and emergency kits.

Risk Assessment and Incident Management:

  • Perform risk assessments for tasks, equipment, and processes, documenting findings and recommendations.
  • Support investigations of incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and prepare detailed reports outlining causes and preventive measures.
  • Assist in analyzing incident trends and implementing measures to reduce workplace risks.

Environmental Compliance:

  • Monitor waste management practices to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Conduct checks on pollution control systems, such as emissions and effluent levels, to meet environmental standards.
  • Support initiatives to promote resource conservation, recycling, and other sustainable practices.

HSE Training and Awareness:

  • Assist in delivering HSE training sessions for employees, covering safety protocols, emergency response, and environmental practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness through campaigns, posters, and team discussions.
  • Ensure employees understand and follow HSE policies and procedures.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, risk assessments, and incident reports.
  • Prepare compliance reports and HSE performance summaries for internal review and audits.
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with industry regulations and organizational standards.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental principles, regulations, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation techniques.
  • Basic understanding of environmental regulations, including waste management and pollution control.
  • Strong observational and analytical skills to identify hazards and recommend improvements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel) for preparing reports and documentation.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certification in HSE practices (OSHA, NEBOSH IGC, or equivalent) is highly desirable.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Process Control in Drilling, Refining, and Extraction: Supporting the monitoring of HSE aspects in process control systems, ensuring safety procedures are followed.
  • SCADA Systems for Pipeline Management: Assisting in the evaluation of safety protocols and environmental impacts related to SCADA systems used in pipeline management.
  • Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Assisting in the implementation and testing of safety and emergency shutdown systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Environmental and Regulatory Compliance: Supporting audits and inspections to ensure that all operations meet environmental and regulatory HSE standards.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in HSE management or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with safety inspections, risk assessments, or environmental monitoring.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with safety monitoring tools and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Exposure to HSE management software or incident reporting systems.
