Gas Turbine Performance Engineer

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a motivated and technically sound Junior Gas Turbine Performance Engineer to support performance monitoring, data analysis, and optimization of gas turbine systems across operational assets. This entry-level role will focus on collecting and analyzing operational data, generating performance trends, and assisting senior engineers in identifying areas for efficiency improvement, degradation tracking, and anomaly detection.

The ideal candidate is an engineering graduate or early-career professional with a passion for turbomachinery, thermodynamics, and data-driven problem solving.

Key Responsibilities:

📊 Performance Monitoring & Analysis

  • Collect, validate, and analyze real-time and historical operating data from gas turbines (temperatures, pressures, fuel flows, efficiencies).

  • Support the preparation of daily/weekly performance reports and KPIs (e.g., Heat Rate, Power Output, EGT Margin, Efficiency).

  • Assist in detecting performance deviations, equipment degradation, or fouling events.

🛠️ Support for Diagnostics & Optimization

  • Assist senior engineers in performing heat balance and cycle efficiency evaluations using OEM and in-house models.

  • Compare actual performance with OEM baselines and historical benchmarks to support tuning or inspection planning.

  • Support engine trending activities and create visualizations to communicate findings.

🧪 Testing & Inspection Support

  • Participate in performance tests (e.g., post-maintenance testing, seasonal performance evaluations).

  • Help in preparing test protocols, data sheets, and preliminary analysis under guidance.

  • Support pre/post inspection reviews with operational data correlation.

📄 Reporting & Documentation

  • Contribute to technical documentation including performance summaries, engineering logs, and deviation reports.

  • Maintain and update performance monitoring databases and model parameters.

🤝 Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with operations, maintenance, controls, and OEM teams to ensure data consistency and actionable insights.

  • Support performance-related inputs to root cause investigations (if performance degradation is a factor).

Qualifications:

🎓 Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or related field.

  • Strong academic background in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and gas turbine cycles.

🧰 Experience:

  • 0–3 years of professional or internship experience in turbine performance, operations, or rotating equipment analytics.

  • Exposure to gas turbine systems (GE, Siemens, MHPS, Solar Turbines, etc.) is a plus.

Technical Skills:

  • Understanding of Brayton cycle, heat rate, exhaust gas temperature (EGT), compressor maps, and power augmentation techniques.

  • Familiarity with OEM performance software or general simulation tools (e.g., GateCycle, Thermoflex, GT PRO) is desirable.

  • Basic knowledge of instrumentation (thermocouples, pressure transducers, flowmeters) and their relevance to performance.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, charts), and exposure to data tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Power BI) is a plus.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills

  • Willingness to learn and work in a collaborative engineering environment

  • Detail-oriented with good documentation and communication habits

  • Time management and problem-solving aptitude
