Job Specification: Force Calibration Engineer

Job Summary:

The Senior Force Calibration Engineer is responsible for leading advanced calibration processes, managing complex force measurement systems, and ensuring compliance with international standards. This role involves mentoring team members, driving process improvements, and contributing to strategic initiatives. The Senior Engineer plays a critical role in optimizing workflows, solving technical challenges, and maintaining the reliability and precision of force measurement systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Calibration and Testing:

  • Perform and oversee advanced calibration of force measurement devices, including load cells, torque sensors, and force transducers.
  • Validate and certify high-precision force instruments using tools like deadweight testers, hydraulic calibrators, and universal testing machines.
  • Address and resolve complex calibration challenges, ensuring instruments meet or exceed accuracy requirements.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Review and approve detailed calibration records, logs, and certificates to ensure compliance with ISO 17025 and organizational standards.
  • Prepare comprehensive calibration reports, including data analysis and insights for stakeholders.
  • Develop and refine calibration procedures to align with industry advancements and best practices.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Lead preventive maintenance programs for calibration equipment to ensure optimal functionality and reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolve advanced technical issues in force measurement systems with minimal supervision.
  • Implement corrective actions to address recurring problems and enhance system performance.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure all calibration activities comply with international standards such as ISO 17025, ISO 376, and NIST traceability.
  • Act as a technical representative during internal and external audits, addressing compliance concerns and providing documentation.
  • Drive initiatives to improve quality control and maintain certification standards for calibration processes.

Leadership and Team Development:

  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering professional growth and technical development.
  • Lead training sessions on advanced calibration techniques, tools, and software.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address calibration-related challenges and support project goals.

Process Optimization and Innovation:

  • Identify inefficiencies in calibration workflows and lead efforts to enhance accuracy, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and integrate innovative tools and methodologies into calibration processes.
  • Participate in research and development initiatives to advance calibration capabilities and methodologies.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Advanced understanding of force measurement principles and devices, including high-pressure and low-pressure load cells, torque sensors, and force transducers.
  • Expertise in using advanced calibration equipment such as deadweight testers, force analyzers, and universal testing machines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address complex calibration issues and optimize processes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality standards and systems, including ISO 17025, ISO 376, ANSI, and ASTM.
  • Proven leadership skills to manage teams and oversee multiple projects effectively.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced certifications in calibration, metrology, or quality systems (e.g., Certified Calibration Technician, ISO 17025 Lead Auditor) are highly desirable.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Automated Manufacturing Systems (Robots, Conveyors, etc.)

  • Leading the calibration, validation, and performance enhancement of force measurement tools in advanced automated manufacturing systems.
  • Quality Control and Monitoring

  • Overseeing the development of comprehensive calibration frameworks and ensuring strict adherence to quality assurance processes and industry standards.
  • SCADA and PLC Programming for Industrial Equipment

  • Driving the integration, programming, and optimization of SCADA and PLC systems for precise control and monitoring of force calibration processes.

Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience in force calibration, with a proven track record of managing complex systems and leading large-scale projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing innovative calibration methodologies.

Tools and Equipment:

  • High-precision calibration tools, including automated force calibrators, deadweight testers, hydraulic and pneumatic calibrators, and universal testing machines.
  • Proficiency in calibration management software for data analysis, scheduling, and reporting.

  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills to mentor teams and engage with stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining safety, compliance, and operational excellence in calibration processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and deliver results under tight deadlines.
