Job Title: Flight Systems Calibration Engineer

Job Summary:

The Junior Flight Systems Calibration Engineer is responsible for assisting in the calibration, testing, and maintenance of flight control systems, avionics, and related components used in aircraft and aerospace applications. This role provides an excellent opportunity for hands-on experience with flight systems, enabling the engineer to develop expertise in system calibration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization. The Junior Engineer will work closely with senior engineers to ensure that flight systems operate at peak performance and meet all regulatory and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Flight Systems Calibration:

    • Assist in the calibration of flight control systems, avionics, sensors, and other flight-related components.
    • Support senior engineers in performing calibration procedures for aircraft systems, ensuring accurate and reliable system performance.
    • Help verify that systems meet operational specifications and regulatory requirements by assisting with the adjustment of calibration parameters.
  2. Testing and Validation:

    • Participate in testing flight systems to ensure they function correctly and meet required performance specifications.
    • Assist with conducting hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) tests, flight simulations, and other types of system validation for avionics and flight control systems.
    • Document test data, identifying any discrepancies or issues with system performance and supporting the team in making necessary adjustments.
  3. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:

    • Help troubleshoot and diagnose issues with flight systems, including avionics, sensors, and control systems.
    • Assist in resolving discrepancies found during testing or calibration by providing support to senior engineers.
    • Support the team in identifying system faults, using diagnostic tools, and implementing corrective actions.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of calibration, testing, and maintenance activities.
    • Assist in preparing reports on flight system performance, test results, and any issues encountered during the calibration process.
    • Ensure that all documentation is compliant with company standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., FAA, EASA).
  5. System Integration and Maintenance:

    • Assist in the integration of new flight control systems and avionics components into aircraft platforms.
    • Help with routine maintenance tasks, including recalibration, inspections, and system checks to ensure the continued optimal performance of flight systems.
    • Perform basic troubleshooting and support ongoing maintenance tasks to resolve any issues found during system checks or operational use.
  6. Learning and Development:

    • Continuously learn about flight systems, calibration techniques, and aerospace technologies to expand technical knowledge and improve problem-solving skills.
    • Participate in training programs and on-the-job learning to improve understanding of flight systems, control systems, and avionics.
    • Stay updated with industry advancements and best practices in flight systems calibration and aerospace engineering.
  7. Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory guidelines during calibration, testing, and maintenance activities to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Assist in ensuring that flight systems meet all required certifications, such as FAA and EASA regulations, before being used in operational environments.
    • Help identify safety concerns and risks during calibration and testing and take appropriate action to mitigate them.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of flight control systems, avionics, and sensors used in aerospace applications.
  • Familiarity with calibration techniques and measurement tools used to ensure system performance.
  • Understanding of control systems and how they integrate with flight systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve technical issues.
  • Basic knowledge of aerospace regulations (e.g., FAA, EASA) and safety standards.
  • Proficiency with basic diagnostic tools and testing equipment used in aerospace systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accurate documentation.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Coursework or certifications related to flight control systems, avionics, or calibration is a plus.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Avionics and Flight Control Systems: Assisting in the calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of avionics and flight control systems, ensuring that they meet operational standards and provide accurate data for safe flight operations.
  • Safety and Emergency Systems for Aircraft: Supporting the testing and calibration of safety-critical systems in aircraft, ensuring that emergency systems function correctly and in compliance with safety standards.
  • Precision Instrumentation for Navigation, Communications, and Control: Assisting in the calibration, inspection, and troubleshooting of precision instrumentation for navigation, communications, and flight control systems, ensuring high levels of accuracy and system reliability.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Helping maintain proper documentation for calibration activities, ensuring all procedures and results comply with industry regulations and standards.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in aerospace systems, flight testing, or related fields.
  • Exposure to flight systems, avionics, or calibration techniques through academic projects, internships, or practical training is beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience with diagnostic tools or flight systems testing in an academic or internship setting is advantageous.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with flight systems testing tools, calibration equipment, and measurement devices used in aerospace engineering.
  • Exposure to data analysis tools and software (e.g., MATLAB, Excel) for analyzing test data and performance metrics.
  • Basic knowledge of software used in flight systems testing (e.g., LabVIEW, Simulink) is a plus.
