The FDM Supervisor oversees the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of the Flight Data Monitoring program. This role ensures the integrity, analysis, and strategic use of flight data to enhance safety, support compliance, and guide operational decision-making. The supervisor leads the FDM team, collaborates cross-functionally, and ensures alignment with regulatory and organizational safety objectives.
Program Oversight & Strategy:
Supervise and evolve the FDM/FOQA program to ensure proactive risk detection and alignment with the Safety Management System (SMS).
Team Leadership:
Manage a team of junior and mid-level FDM analysts. Assign responsibilities, ensure quality of outputs, and provide coaching and development support.
Data Review & Escalation:
Oversee data collection, processing, event detection, and trend analysis. Escalate significant findings to safety and operational leadership.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Act as the FDM liaison for regulatory bodies, internal safety boards, fleet managers, and pilots. Facilitate FDM Safety Review Boards and feedback loops.
Policy & Procedure Management:
Develop and maintain FDM-related SOPs, including data confidentiality, exceedance thresholds, and event review protocols.
Continuous Improvement:
Evaluate FDM systems and methodologies to ensure accuracy, relevance, and timeliness. Implement improvements in event logic and reporting workflows.
Technology Implementation:
Collaborate with IT, engineering, and data science teams to integrate advanced analytics, dashboards, and visualization tools into the FDM workflow.
Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure all data handling and reporting processes comply with ICAO Annex 6, FAA AC 120-82, EASA regulations, and local authority guidelines.
Program Leadership & Governance:
Lead FDM operations with a focus on efficiency, quality, and impact across the organization.
Operational Risk Management:
Use flight data insights to proactively address systemic risks, procedural non-conformance, and opportunities for training improvement.
Cross-Department Collaboration:
Work with departments including Flight Ops, Training, Engineering, and Maintenance to close the loop on safety findings.
Data-Driven Decision Making:
Transform raw data and trends into actionable insights for decision-makers at the executive and operational levels.
Confidentiality & Safety Culture:
Champion secure data handling practices and foster a non-punitive, learning-oriented environment for pilot reporting and performance review.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aviation Safety, Data Science, or related field
8+ years of experience in aviation safety, FDM/FOQA programs, and flight operations
At least 2–3 years in a team lead or supervisory capacity
Expertise in FDM platforms (GE, SAGEM, Flight Data Connect, etc.) and analytics tools (Python, Power BI, MATLAB, Excel)
Deep knowledge of aircraft operations and SMS frameworks
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional and executive engagement
Proven experience managing audits, compliance, and regulatory reporting
Airline, OEM, or aviation safety authority background preferred
