Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) Specialist supports the collection, processing, and preliminary analysis of flight data to help ensure operational safety, efficiency, and compliance with safety programs. This role is ideal for candidates looking to build a career in aviation safety, flight operations, or data analytics.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Collection Support:
    Assist in retrieving and verifying flight data from aircraft systems, including FDRs (Flight Data Recorders) and QARs (Quick Access Recorders).

  • FDM Software Usage:
    Learn and operate basic functions of FDM software platforms to identify routine exceedances and generate automated reports.

  • Initial Event Screening:
    Flag data points and flight events that may indicate operational deviations or exceedances for senior team review.

  • Database Maintenance:
    Help maintain accurate flight data logs, ensuring proper documentation and categorization of data for traceability.

  • Support Reporting Activities:
    Contribute to weekly/monthly summaries and safety trend reports by gathering data and assisting in visualization efforts.

  • Cross-Department Support:
    Coordinate with operations, engineering, or IT teams when needed for data validation or system troubleshooting.

  • Confidential Data Handling:
    Adhere to data confidentiality policies and procedures under guidance from senior FDM or safety personnel.

  • Training Participation:
    Take part in ongoing internal training to build skills in FDM tools, flight operations knowledge, and safety protocols.


Key Focus Areas:

  1. Foundational Knowledge Development:
    Build a working understanding of flight phases, aircraft behavior, safety indicators, and FDM systems.

  2. Data Handling & Integrity:
    Support consistent and reliable flight data extraction, formatting, and preliminary checks for completeness and correctness.

  3. Learning FDM Tools:
    Develop proficiency with FDM platforms such as GE FlightPulse, SkyBreathe, or SAGEM, starting with basic queries and filters.

  4. Operational Awareness:
    Gain exposure to airline or fleet operations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and risk indicators relevant to flight safety.

  5. Team Collaboration:
    Work closely with senior specialists, flight safety officers, and maintenance engineers to understand the full lifecycle of data-driven safety monitoring.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aviation Safety, Computer Science, or a related field (or final-year students/interns welcome in some cases)

  • 0–3 years of relevant experience in flight data, aviation operations, or analytics

  • Basic understanding of aircraft systems and flight mechanics preferred

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel; exposure to data tools such as Python, MATLAB, or FDM software is a plus

  • Strong attention to detail, data handling accuracy, and willingness to learn

  • Effective communication skills and ability to follow guidance and procedures

  • Enthusiasm for aviation safety and continuous improvement
