Job Title: Flight Control Systems Engineer
Job Summary:
The Senior Flight Control Systems Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, integration, testing, optimization, and troubleshooting of advanced flight control systems for aircraft. This leadership role involves working on critical systems such as autopilot, flight management, stability augmentation systems, and manual flight controls to ensure that they meet the highest safety, performance, and regulatory standards. The Senior Engineer will guide and mentor a team of engineers, manage complex projects, and lead efforts to improve the reliability, efficiency, and functionality of flight control systems. The position also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that flight control systems are integrated seamlessly with other aircraft systems.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design and Integration Leadership:
- Lead the design and integration of advanced flight control systems, including autopilot systems, flight management systems, and manual flight control systems, ensuring that all systems meet aircraft performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the integration of flight control systems with avionics, navigation, communication, and propulsion systems, ensuring that all subsystems operate harmoniously and efficiently.
- Develop and refine system architecture and technical specifications for flight control systems, guiding system development and integration from concept to deployment.
Testing, Validation, and Performance Optimization:
- Oversee the testing and validation of flight control systems to ensure that they perform optimally in real-world flight conditions.
- Lead system-level validation, including ground tests, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations, and flight testing, to ensure systems meet operational and safety standards.
- Identify areas for system optimization to improve performance, reliability, and fuel efficiency, and lead initiatives to implement changes.
Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis:
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) for complex flight control system issues, providing guidance to the engineering team in diagnosing and resolving problems.
- Address critical flight control system failures and ensure that all corrective actions are implemented quickly and effectively to minimize operational disruptions.
- Ensure that long-term solutions are implemented to improve the reliability and performance of flight control systems.
Regulatory Compliance and Safety Assurance:
- Ensure that all flight control systems comply with regulatory standards (e.g., FAA, EASA) and safety protocols, working closely with regulatory bodies to ensure systems meet certification requirements.
- Lead the preparation of documentation and certification materials for flight control systems to meet regulatory requirements and support certification processes.
- Ensure the implementation of safety-critical systems, including fail-safes and redundancy measures, to maintain safe operations under all conditions.
Project Management and Cross-Functional Leadership:
- Manage complex flight control systems projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications.
- Lead cross-functional teams (e.g., avionics, electrical, mechanical) to ensure that flight control systems are integrated effectively with other aircraft subsystems.
- Coordinate with other engineering departments, such as systems, R&D, and production, to ensure alignment and proper execution of flight control system development projects.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the performance, safety, and efficiency of flight control systems, ensuring that new technologies and best practices are integrated into system development.
- Stay informed about emerging trends in avionics, flight control systems, and aerospace technologies, and lead the adoption of innovative solutions that advance the capabilities of flight control systems.
- Promote innovation and contribute to the development of next-generation flight control technologies and systems.
Mentoring and Technical Leadership:
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and other technical staff, providing leadership, technical expertise, and professional development support.
- Promote knowledge sharing and best practices across the team to improve technical capabilities and foster a culture of continuous learning.
- Provide technical leadership in system design, testing, and troubleshooting, ensuring the team follows established engineering standards and practices.
Collaboration with External Stakeholders:
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for all flight control systems-related matters, collaborating with internal teams, external partners, and customers.
- Work with suppliers and manufacturers to source components and technologies that meet performance and quality requirements for flight control systems.
- Liaise with certification agencies, ensuring that all flight control systems meet necessary regulatory requirements and are ready for certification.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, including system designs, test plans, reports, and performance evaluations.
- Maintain comprehensive records of flight control system configurations, changes, and test results to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Provide regular reports to senior management on system performance, ongoing projects, and any issues that need to be addressed.
Budget and Resource Management:

Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Certifications related to flight control systems, avionics, or regulatory compliance (e.g., Six Sigma, FAA certifications) are highly desirable.

- Extensive experience with troubleshooting, testing, and optimizing flight control systems in both laboratory and operational environments.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects in the aerospace industry.
Tools and Technologies:
