Job Title: Flight Control Systems Engineer

Job Summary:

The Junior Flight Control Systems Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design, integration, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of flight control systems for aircraft. This role offers an opportunity to work with avionics, flight management systems, autopilot systems, and other critical components for navigation, control, and communication. Under the guidance of senior engineers, the Junior Engineer will contribute to ensuring that flight control systems are accurately calibrated, validated, and meet safety and regulatory requirements, supporting the development and optimization of safe, reliable, and efficient aircraft systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. System Design and Integration Support:

    • Assist in the integration of flight control systems, including autopilot systems, flight management systems, and manual flight controls.
    • Support the installation of flight control system components, ensuring proper interface with avionics, navigation, and other aircraft systems.
    • Assist with system architecture and integration designs by reviewing system documentation and contributing ideas to improve system performance.
  2. Testing and Validation Support:

    • Assist in the development and execution of tests for flight control systems to validate system functionality, performance, and safety compliance.
    • Perform test procedures for avionics and flight control systems, ensuring that they meet operational specifications and safety standards.
    • Record and analyze test data, assisting senior engineers in identifying performance trends, deviations, and areas for improvement.
  3. Calibration and Maintenance:

    • Help with the calibration of flight control systems, ensuring that all systems and sensors are aligned with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
    • Assist with routine maintenance and inspections of avionics and flight control systems to ensure optimal performance.
    • Support troubleshooting efforts for flight control system issues, conducting preliminary diagnostic tests to identify root causes.
  4. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:

    • Provide support in troubleshooting flight control system issues and collaborate with senior engineers to implement solutions.
    • Help diagnose problems with autopilot systems, flight management systems, or manual flight control systems and propose corrective actions.
    • Assist in documenting problems, proposed solutions, and outcomes to build troubleshooting records and improve future operations.
  5. Documentation and Compliance:

    • Maintain detailed records of calibration activities, test results, and maintenance procedures to ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., FAA, EASA).
    • Assist in the preparation of documentation required for regulatory approvals, certifications, and audits.
    • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of flight control system performance data, including any deviations from expected standards.
  6. Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:

    • Work closely with other engineering teams (e.g., avionics, electrical, mechanical) to ensure smooth integration of flight control systems with other aircraft subsystems.
    • Collaborate with senior engineers to improve system functionality and performance based on test results and operational feedback.
    • Assist in communications between different teams to ensure that flight control systems meet operational goals and regulatory requirements.
  7. Learning and Development:

    • Continuously expand knowledge of flight control systems, avionics, and safety standards relevant to the aviation industry.
    • Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance technical skills in avionics, system integration, and flight control technologies.
    • Stay informed about the latest developments in flight control systems and avionics technologies to apply innovative solutions to engineering challenges.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of flight control systems, including autopilot systems, flight management systems, and flight navigation systems.
  • Familiarity with control systems, sensors, and actuators used in aviation systems.
  • Awareness of avionics, aircraft systems, and safety protocols (e.g., FAA, EASA).
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with flight control systems.
  • Knowledge of testing, calibration, and validation processes for aviation systems.
  • Proficient in using software tools for data analysis and simulation (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, Excel).
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and document technical findings.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Coursework or academic projects related to avionics, control systems, or flight control systems is a plus.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in avionics, flight control systems, or related aerospace fields. Internships, academic projects, or hands-on training in flight control systems or avionics are advantageous.
  • Exposure to flight control systems, avionics, or aircraft operations through coursework or practical training is beneficial.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Avionics and Flight Control Systems:

    Contributing to the development, testing, and integration of flight control systems and avionics.
  • Performing basic troubleshooting and optimization of system functionality under limited supervision.
  • Safety and Emergency Systems:

    Assisting in the design and evaluation of safety-critical systems, such as fire suppression, oxygen delivery, and evacuation mechanisms.
  • Conducting routine testing and ensuring compliance with safety and reliability standards.
  • Precision Instrumentation:

    Calibrating and validating precision instruments used for navigation, communication, and control systems.
  • Supporting the analysis of system performance and addressing minor issues to maintain high accuracy and reliability.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with flight control system components, avionics systems, and control systems.
  • Basic understanding of system testing, calibration tools, and measurement equipment used for avionics and flight control systems.
  • Exposure to software tools for simulation and modeling (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink) for data analysis and testing.
