The Junior Field Service Technician – HVAC Units assists in the routine maintenance, installation, repair, and servicing of HVAC systems under the guidance of senior technicians or supervisors. This role involves on-site visits to residential buildings, commercial complexes, or industrial units to help ensure HVAC equipment operates efficiently and reliably.
Assist in preventive maintenance of HVAC systems including split units, ductable units, package units, VRF/VRV systems, and small chillers.
Support tasks such as filter cleaning, coil washing, checking drain systems, belt inspection, and lubrication of moving parts.
Help perform basic electrical checks like measuring voltage, amp draw, and capacitor testing under supervision.
Aid in replacing small components such as thermostats, sensors, relays, and contactors.
Attend service calls and assist senior technicians in identifying and resolving issues like poor cooling, refrigerant leaks, or airflow problems.
Learn to use basic diagnostic tools such as multimeters, manifold gauges, and leak detectors.
Follow up on basic repair jobs such as topping up refrigerant, drain line clearance, or thermostat replacement.
Support installation of HVAC systems including setting up indoor and outdoor units, basic piping, and bracket mounting.
Assist in insulation of copper piping and routing of drain lines and wiring.
Maintain service checklists, maintenance logs, and job completion forms.
Communicate courteously with clients at the site; ensure their queries are directed to the appropriate personnel.
Follow safety protocols while working on ladders, rooftops, or in mechanical rooms.
Use appropriate PPE, and participate in toolbox talks and basic risk assessments.
Hands-On Learning: Gain field exposure to HVAC systems under mentorship.
Service Discipline: Follow work procedures and safety standards precisely.
Customer Support: Represent the service brand professionally at the client site.
Tool Usage: Understand and operate basic HVAC tools and instruments correctly.
ITI / Diploma in Refrigeration, HVAC, or Mechanical Engineering.
0–2 years of HVAC-related field experience or technical training.
Basic understanding of HVAC mechanical and electrical components.
Willingness to learn from senior technicians and follow instructions closely.
Physically fit to lift equipment, climb ladders, and work in hot/confined areas.
Good communication and documentation skills for reporting service activities.
