Job Title: Field Instrumentation Technician (Oil and Gas)
Job Summary:
The Field Instrumentation Supervisor oversees the installation, maintenance, and optimization of field instrumentation systems in oil and gas operations. This role involves managing a team of technicians, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and driving operational efficiency. The supervisor plays a critical role in coordinating tasks, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring that field instrumentation systems meet performance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Supervision and Coordination:
- Lead and supervise a team of field technicians, ensuring efficient task allocation and timely completion of maintenance activities.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to improve team proficiency.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance the technical skills of team members.
Instrumentation Maintenance and Calibration:
- Oversee the calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation systems, including flow meters, pressure sensors, and control valves.
- Ensure that all field instruments are performing optimally and are compliant with operational standards.
- Develop preventive maintenance schedules to minimize system downtime and enhance reliability.
System Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:
- Diagnose and resolve advanced issues in instrumentation systems using specialized diagnostic tools.
- Conduct root cause analyses for recurring faults and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with engineers and vendors to address technical challenges and recommend system upgrades.
System Installation and Upgrades:
- Supervise the installation and integration of new instrumentation systems with existing SCADA/DCS platforms.
- Validate and approve system upgrades to ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure seamless execution of system retrofits and installations.
Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce compliance with industry safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Conduct safety audits and participate in risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Ensure proper functionality of safety-critical systems, such as emergency shutdown devices and alarm systems.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, calibration logs, and system configurations.
- Prepare technical reports on system performance, team productivity, and safety compliance.
- Contribute to refining and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for instrumentation systems.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Act as a liaison between the instrumentation team, operations, and senior management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align instrumentation activities with organizational objectives.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to address concerns and provide updates on system performance.

Educational Qualifications:
- Diploma or Associate’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Certifications in advanced instrumentation systems or process automation (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Honeywell) are preferred.
Experience:
- 5-7 years of experience in field instrumentation maintenance and calibration, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
- Proven track record of supervising teams and managing complex technical tasks.
Tools and Technologies:
- Expertise in diagnostic tools, such as loop calibrators, multimeters, and vibration analyzers.
- Proficiency in SCADA platforms like Siemens WinCC, ABB, or Honeywell Experion.
- Familiarity with predictive maintenance tools and data analytics for system optimization.
