Job Title: Field Instrumentation Technician (Oil and Gas)
Job Summary:
The Fresher Field Instrumentation Technician is responsible for assisting in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of field instrumentation systems in oil and gas operations. The role involves learning to troubleshoot and maintain sensors, transmitters, and control valves under the guidance of senior technicians. The technician ensures basic compliance with safety and industry standards while gaining technical expertise in field instrumentation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Instrumentation Installation and Maintenance:
- Assist in installing instrumentation systems, including pressure, temperature, flow, and level measurement devices.
- Support calibration and maintenance activities to ensure accurate operation of field instruments.
- Learn to perform routine inspections and identify potential issues in field equipment.
Troubleshooting and Repairs:
- Observe and assist in diagnosing basic faults in instrumentation systems using standard diagnostic tools.
- Replace defective parts and components under supervision to restore equipment functionality.
- Document issues and escalate complex problems to senior technicians or engineers for resolution.
Data Recording and Reporting:
- Record calibration data, maintenance activities, and test results accurately.
- Prepare basic reports and maintain logs for compliance and operational records.
Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to organizational safety protocols and industry standards during all field activities.
- Participate in safety drills and training to gain foundational knowledge of hazard identification and risk management.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing field tasks.
Learning and Development:
- Attend training sessions and workshops to understand oil and gas field instrumentation systems.
- Develop familiarity with industrial standards (e.g., API, ISA) and instrumentation technologies.
- Build hands-on skills by shadowing senior technicians during field operations.
Key Focus Areas:
- Field Instrumentation: Assist in maintaining and calibrating field devices for accurate process control.
- Troubleshooting: Learn basic fault diagnosis and support the resolution of issues in instrumentation systems.

Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Basic understanding of instrumentation devices, including sensors, transmitters, and control valves.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as multimeters and loop calibrators is advantageous.
- Awareness of safety standards and best practices in oil and gas operations.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and follow standard operating procedures.
Educational Qualifications:
- Diploma or Associate’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Basic training or certification in instrumentation is desirable but not mandatory.
Experience:
- No prior experience required; internships or academic projects related to instrumentation in oil and gas are beneficial.
Tools and Technologies:
- Exposure to basic tools such as multimeters, pressure gauges, and calibration equipment.
- Familiarity with SCADA/DCS systems and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus) is a plus.
