Roles & Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Junior Field Instrumentation Technician will assist in the installation, calibration, routine checks, and maintenance of field instrumentation devices under the supervision of senior technicians or engineers. This role provides foundational field experience and supports the safe and efficient functioning of instruments used in process automation and control.


Key Focus Areas & Responsibilities:

1. Instrument Support & Maintenance

  • Assist in routine maintenance of instruments such as pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters, as well as switches and sensors.

  • Support in checking and cleaning sensors, impulse lines, and junction boxes.

  • Help maintain proper housekeeping of instrument panels and enclosures.

2. Calibration Assistance

  • Support senior technicians in calibrating field instruments using standard calibration tools (e.g., HART communicator, multimeters, portable calibrators).

  • Record calibration readings and assist in preparing calibration reports.

3. Installation & Wiring

  • Assist with instrument installation including mounting, cabling, and conduit work.

  • Help with cable tagging, loop checking, and termination during new installations or modifications.

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Follow site safety policies, including PPE usage and permit-to-work systems.

  • Participate in toolbox talks and safety training sessions.

  • Ensure all work is done under supervision and in compliance with safety procedures.

5. Learning & Development

  • Attend technical training on instrumentation fundamentals, standards, and tools.

  • Gain exposure to P&ID, loop diagrams, and basic control concepts.

  • Build skills in troubleshooting basic instrumentation issues under guidance.


Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Basic understanding of field instrumentation types and applications.

  • Familiarity with electrical tools and safe handling practices.

  • Willingness to learn calibration, installation, and maintenance practices.

  • Good teamwork, discipline, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to follow instructions and safety rules strictly.


Qualifications:

  • ITI (Instrumentation / Electronics / Electrical) or
    Diploma in Instrumentation / Electronics Engineering.

  • 0–3 years of experience in field instrumentation or a related internship/apprenticeship.

  • Exposure to industrial environments (power plant, refinery, water treatment, etc.) is a plus.
