The Field Instrumentation Technician – Fresher will support basic field instrumentation tasks such as assisting in installation, calibration, preventive maintenance, and loop checking under the supervision of senior staff. This role is focused on hands-on learning and developing foundational skills in field instrumentation within an industrial environment.
Shadow and assist senior technicians in routine instrumentation tasks.
Gain familiarity with various types of field instruments: transmitters, control valves, switches, etc.
Learn to read P&IDs, loop diagrams, and basic instrument datasheets.
Assist with instrument calibration using HART communicators, multimeters, and portable calibrators.
Observe and document calibration procedures under guidance.
Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of tools and equipment.
Help with mounting instruments, routing cables, tagging, and termination activities.
Support loop checking and signal continuity testing during new installations.
Understand the basics of safe wiring and hazardous area equipment.
Adhere strictly to safety guidelines, PPE usage, and work permit systems.
Participate in safety tool box talks and job risk assessments.
Learn plant-specific safety standards like LOTO, confined space, and electrical isolation.
Help maintain logbooks, job cards, and calibration forms.
Update checklists and assist in keeping calibration and maintenance records organized.
Understanding of basic field instruments and signal types (4-20 mA, digital).
Familiarity with industrial control systems (PLC/DCS interface basics).
Safe use of electrical and calibration tools.
Basic troubleshooting mindset and problem identification.
Teamwork, communication, and willingness to learn on-site protocols.
ITI (Instrumentation / Electronics / Electrical)
or Diploma in Instrumentation / Electronics Engineering
0–1 year of experience (internship/apprenticeship is a plus)
Basic understanding of industrial instrumentation from academic training
