Job Title: Mid-Level - Fiber Optics
Job Summary
The Mid-Level Fiber Optics professional is responsible for the independent installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic networks. This role requires hands-on experience in troubleshooting and ensuring network reliability. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of fiber optic technologies and be capable of working autonomously while also mentoring junior team members. The position demands a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality in all aspects of fiber optic work.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fiber optic splicing, termination, and testing with minimal supervision.
- Conduct OTDR and power meter tests to ensure optimal network performance.
- Identify and resolve fiber optic faults and connectivity issues efficiently.
- Document fiber routes and maintain accurate network diagrams for reference and compliance.
- Train and mentor junior team members to enhance their skills and knowledge in fiber optics.
Skills and Knowledge Required
- Strong understanding of fiber optic technologies, network architectures, and troubleshooting methods.
- Experience with fiber characterization and loss analysis techniques.
- Proficiency in handling fiber optic tools and splicing techniques.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as TIA/EIA and IEEE.
Educational Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Networking, or a related field.
- Certifications such as CFOT, FOA, or BICSI are a plus.
Key Focus Areas
- Independent troubleshooting of fiber issues to ensure network reliability.
- Optimization and maintenance of fiber networks for peak performance.
- Ensuring adherence to safety and industry standards in all operations.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in fiber optics installation and maintenance.
Tools and Equipment
- Fusion splicers, OTDRs, optical power meters, fiber identifiers, and cable management tools.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to travel and work in various environments, including aerial and underground fiber networks.
- Ability to work effectively in diverse settings and under varying conditions.
