The Senior Fabrication Technician is a highly skilled and experienced professional responsible for leading complex fabrication tasks in support of water and wastewater treatment system projects. This role involves expert-level welding, fitting, and assembly of mechanical structures, pressure piping, and process skids. The technician also mentors junior staff, ensures code compliance, and contributes to shop productivity, quality, and safety.
Interpret and execute complex fabrication drawings, piping isometrics, and weld maps.
Lead layout, fitting, and welding of piping systems, modular skids, tanks, and structural frames.
Fabricate to precise tolerances, ensuring fit-up and alignment for field-ready assemblies.
Perform high-quality welding in TIG, MIG, and SMAW across stainless steel, carbon steel, and specialty alloys.
Apply knowledge of ASME, AWS, and AWWA welding codes during fabrication.
Conduct precision grinding, cutting, and forming using advanced shop equipment.
Act as fabrication team lead on assigned projects, coordinating work sequences and quality checkpoints.
Mentor junior and mid-level technicians in welding, layout, and drawing interpretation.
Perform and document in-process and final inspections in collaboration with QA/QC personnel.
Support third-party NDT inspections and proactively address weld repairs or rework.
Champion shop safety standards, enforce PPE usage, and report safety concerns promptly.
Recommend and implement improvements to fabrication workflows, tooling, and material handling.
Maintain detailed fabrication records, time logs, and material traceability documentation.
Expert mechanical fabrication for complex water treatment components

Education:
High school diploma or GED required
Trade certification or diploma in Welding, Mechanical Fabrication, or related discipline preferred
Certifications:
AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX certified (multiple process and position certifications strongly preferred)
Forklift, overhead crane, rigging, and confined space training desirable
OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certification
Experience:
6–10+ years of mechanical fabrication and welding experience in an industrial or water infrastructure setting
Experience fabricating systems to AWWA, ASME B31.1/B31.3, or API standards
Skills:
Advanced ability to read and interpret complex fabrication documents
Excellent welding technique and mechanical assembly precision
Leadership skills and ability to coordinate crews and fabrication tasks
Strong problem-solving, communication, and mentoring ability
