The Junior Fabrication Technician supports the mechanical fabrication of components and assemblies used in water and wastewater treatment systems. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals with basic technical training or hands-on experience in welding, cutting, grinding, and assembling mechanical parts such as piping, frames, skids, and tanks.
Assist with the fabrication of mechanical components such as steel frames, pipe racks, skids, and tanks.
Operate basic shop equipment (cutting saws, grinders, drills, etc.) under supervision.
Support layout, fitting, and tack welding activities for steel, stainless, and plastic assemblies.
Prepare materials and surfaces for welding and joining operations.
Assist welders in positioning parts and handling consumables.
Perform basic welding (if certified) or assist in post-weld cleanup and inspection.
Follow fabrication drawings, instructions, and shop standards.
Comply with safety protocols including use of PPE, machine lockout, and tool safety.
Report quality issues, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards to supervisors.
Maintain clean work areas and organized tools and materials.
Help with loading/unloading materials and moving parts around the shop.
Assist in tracking inventory levels for basic materials and consumables.
Hands-on fabrication of water treatment equipment and structures
Support for welders, fitters, and machinists
Compliance with shop safety standards and procedures
Continuous learning of mechanical fabrication techniques
Education:
High school diploma or GED required
Vocational or technical school certification in welding, metal fabrication, or mechanical trades preferred
Certifications (Preferred):
OSHA 10 or basic shop safety training
Entry-level welding certificate (e.g., FCAW, SMAW, or GMAW) is a plus
Experience:
0–2 years of experience in a fabrication shop or industrial setting
Internship, school projects, or hands-on hobbyist experience is valuable
Skills:
Basic mechanical aptitude and tool handling
Ability to read simple fabrication drawings and follow instructions
Willingness to learn, take direction, and work as part of a team
Good work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
