The Fabrication Shop Manager oversees daily operations of the fabrication shop responsible for producing water treatment equipment, including structural frames, piping systems, pressure vessels, and modular skids. This role ensures safe, efficient, and code-compliant production processes while coordinating workforce management, material flow, and quality control. The manager plays a pivotal role in meeting project deadlines and maintaining high standards for workmanship and safety.
Manage day-to-day shop floor activities including cutting, welding, forming, fitting, and assembly.
Schedule work orders, allocate labor, and monitor productivity to meet fabrication milestones.
Ensure timely material availability through coordination with procurement and inventory control.
Enforce adherence to welding procedures (WPS), pressure piping codes (ASME B31.3), and fabrication standards (ASME, ANSI, AWS).
Collaborate with QA/QC personnel on inspections, NDT, and final acceptance testing.
Ensure all fabrication meets project drawings, technical specifications, and customer requirements.
Lead, train, and supervise a team of welders, fitters, assemblers, and shop technicians.
Conduct performance reviews, enforce shop discipline, and drive continuous improvement.
Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.
Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations, PPE use, and best practices in fabrication and equipment handling.
Conduct safety meetings and support incident investigations and corrective actions.
Maintain organized and OSHA-compliant work areas.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce rework.
Maintain production records, fabrication logs, and KPI dashboards.
Report on schedule status, manpower utilization, and production bottlenecks.
Oversight of water treatment equipment fabrication (frames, tanks, skids, piping)
Workforce supervision and production scheduling
Welding and fabrication quality control (ASME, ANSI, AWS standards)
Safety leadership and shop floor optimization
Material flow and fabrication documentation
Education:
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or equivalent experience
Technical certifications (e.g., AWS CWI, ASME code knowledge) are a plus
Experience:
7–10 years in a fabrication or manufacturing environment, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or managerial role
Experience with water/wastewater treatment equipment fabrication highly preferred
Skills:
Strong knowledge of welding, pressure piping, skid assembly, and structural fabrication
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, isometrics, and welding symbols
Proficiency in production planning tools, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office
Strong communication, leadership, and team-building skills
